Dawson Prock
Mrs. Ghose
English 11
5th Hour
3 December 2017

Pages read:

I have currently read 164 pages

Summary:

The story has taken off to a whole new level. The story of Hannah bakers suicide story has taken a dramatic turn. In her most recent tape about Bryce, she reveals he raped her and was a main cause to her suicide. Now all the people included in the tapes are trying to stop clay from telling the police and escalating the situation. This didn’t stop clay, all he needed was evidence, so he wore a wire and headed to Bryce’s house for a confession.

Characters:

Hannah Baker: Towards the end of her life, Hannah stopped opening up and her life grew very dull and this was not the life she wanted to live. She was no longer afraid to call people out when they crossed the line.

Clay Jensen: Clay has grown out of his shell from the beginning of the story, he makes new friends while trying to find clues leading to Hannah’s death. He does however start to be disobedient in his home and fall off track at school.

Justin Foley: Hannah devotes an entire tape (two sides) to Justin. His first tape describes how he betrayed Hannah her freshman year by dumping her without a word and then spreading rumors about her. It's pretty easy to see why she's mad at him for that: he broke her heart, then stomped on it.

Bryce Walker: He's the eleventh person on Hannah's list, but he shows up a lot throughout the tapes (almost always being a bully – or worse – toward girls). In Bryce's tape, Hannah describes how she joined him in Courtney Crimson's hot tub after a party that Hannah didn't even go to. In the hot tub, Bryce has sex with Hannah without her consent.

Fry readability:

13 reasons why is aimed at grades 9th -12th. The story line within 13 reasons is a little much for its targeted audience, but can be educational for the targeted group as well.

Author citation: Jay Asher. 13 reasons why. Razorbill. 2007.

Rating 13 Reasons why:

The novel was very interesting and the story is one of a kind. The author never left a dull moment in the story, it was was filled with twist and turns. While reading this novel I was engaged from start to finish and I would refer this novel to anyone. This novel did however leave a sour taste in my mouth, it was sad that a young teenager had to take her own life for her point to reach across everyone, and spark a change.
