Angel

1. the movement itself was exciting to me. i loved the dynamic changes and the way the movement felt in my body. i also liked getting to really learn something and then try to make something

2. breaking apart the phrase was challenging, but i really enjoyed it. i was nervous, but i went for it and it felt good. 

3. i think this piece would help me grow as a mover, and as someone who needs to practice learning choreo. i want to audition for companies soon, so i felt like this audition in particular was a good practice at really learning something fast (and in the process as angel said we will be learning a lot of material only to break it apart and into sections). i also think i want to grow in this particular style of contemporary movement. 

Bayleigh

1. i liked the lift i did with christian. it was fun doing touch partnering with eyes closed too. 

2. it was challenging doing acting and improv

3. i think it would make me a better actor but i don’t think it would be a safe piece for me to be in

1. it was exciting! i like being thrown into auditions even though i feel like i don’t always do well in them. 

2. i was really nervous for some reason. i have a class right before pdpr so i feel like i’m not ready? 

3. acting while dancing and floor work and getting really into a specific headset.

1. i liked being able to explore with improv, especially after i had gotten tired. there was always something new to explore. 

2. the exercise when we were creating was kind of hard for me. i also was tired of the improv. 

3. i think it would help me improve in improv and collaborative creating.

1. creating a solo that quickly was cool. i liked the way he worded the elements we would include. 

2. but it was also challenging! especially having to perform it right away. the running in and starting was especially challenging. 

3. i am not quite sure what the piece entails, but i think it would help me with improv and collaborative work? as well as embodying a character?

Jennifer

1. the whole process was exciting. it was very intense.

2. picking up the movement, doing it exactly how she wanted. i was cut pretty early, which was kind of hard to take but it is what it is. i think i need to learn How to audition and not make timing choices that make no sense. and also how to be a better dancer probably. auditioning is hard and i'm scared to go out into the world.

3. it would have helped me grow in working in picking up fast and doing exactly what the choreographer wanted. i think i would have grown the most here but it was not for me and that's okay.

1. What has been challenging for you in this process?

it’s been a little challenging to transition this piece from studio to stage. the lighting for drt is new, and it’s a lot of harsh spotlights and stuff like that and dark everywhere else. it’s hard to know when to follow the light or when to stay in the dark. it’s also difficult with the movement of all the platforms because there’s a lot of them in the dark and we’re supposed to be more intense/quicker when we dance, and i’m afraid of like tripping over the platforms. 

2. How have your expectations for this process been affirmed or challenged?

i was mostly fine with this piece being not picked to be in the acda gala, but now that we learned that there were twelve pieces picked and we were number thirteen, that’s been kind of annoying to learn. so like, yes improv wasn’t made for this kind of thing. but also i feel like we’re not living up to people’s expectations, which is hard. 

3. What has been a delight for you in this process?

we ran the piece for 40 minutes, which i enjoyed a lot more than running it for 10

minutes. one of the pieces i was in for new works festival had a really long contact improv section, and this reminded me of that. i wish the piece was a lot longer. 

4. What have you contributed to the piece and to the realization of a creative community of caring, kickass artists?

i’ve been told that i make good choices in the improv! but i think it’s kind of a hit or miss, but i want to continue to make strong choices. 

I really enjoyed getting to improv with a cast that I liked being around and trusted in order to discover new possibilities every day!

2. What have you contributed to the piece and to the realization of a creative community of caring, kickass artists?

I think I moved the platforms around a lot because I would get bored and decide to make a new choice, and the same goes for movement. I think that contributed to the piece in a positive way!

3. How have your expectations for this process been affirmed or challenged?

I did not expect it to be entirely improv, but I really enjoyed it! I thought it was a valuable experience to be a part of and helped me grow as an artist.

4. How have you grown?

I'm thinking about my trajectory over the past four years, and I have grown so much. This semester, I found myself being more confident and able to just move without much hesitation. I think improv (in a style I'm comfortable with) is really fun and rewarding, especially when it's with other people.
