Infants must find trust in a caregiver to provide for them all of their need; eating, nurturing, sheltering, etc. If a child does not have someone that attends to those needs, the child will start of life not having trust in individuals. The age group lies between 1-3 years old. Autonomy is a sense of independence a child can gain. By positively reinforcing behavior that shows a child trying to become independent, the child will learn to be proud of things he/she can do. If a parent/caregiver does not reinforce autonomous behavior, the child will ultimately feel shame or doubt when trying to achieve tasks. Initiative is a child taking it upon hi/her self to complete a task, I myself am very anal about the way things should be cleaned, but if my daughter puts her toys up just to help me out, I must praise her for doing it, even if it is not the way i would prefer. This stage focuses on middle to late childhood, between the ages of  (6 to puberty). Children in this stage are interested in the way things are done, the process. An example would be a child at home wanting to help his mother make muffins. The mother should allow the boy to help, even if his assistance causes a mess or lengthens the time it takes.
