For this assignment it was interesting because I got to dive deeper into eating disorders. I had heard of people who had experienced them first-hand, but to learn more about the different types of disorders from a research and academic standpoint was crucial. As a future LPC this course felt very necessary because I know at some point in my career that I will have a client with one of these disorders so I will now have a better understanding of how to treat and approach that person.

For this assignment we got to explore a variety of addictions through film. I chose to write about the film, Walk the Line. It's one of my favorite films and there are clear indications of addiction coming from the music artist Johnny Cash. It was a real story of his life and his struggle with addiction and it was helpful to me because I feel that addiction is a struggle for all people in one way or another we all are addicted to something. I will no doubt encounter a client who struggles with an addiction and I hope that from this course I will be able to carry some of methods with me to assist my clients.

Marriage and Family Counseling EDG 6336

For this assignment we had to create a marriage and family scenario and develop real problems that each couple or family might face and apply methods to help solve them. This was a fun assignment because we got to create a case study that may end up one day being very real for us as LPC. Getting to explore which technique or method might work in marriage and family therapy is crucial because it gives us the opportunity to make "mistakes" that can be fixed whereas in a real life situation sometimes there is no "fixing" your mistakes.

Psychopathology & Psychopharmacology EDG 6337

For this assignment, we got to apply our knowledge of psychopathology and psychopharmacology to a case study. This was a long, but rewarding assignment as we completed it in parts. This case study was very informative and gave us as students the opportunity to apply our knowledge to a possible real life scenario.

For this assignment we had to choose a method to explore further and I chose Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because I feel this therapy has most directly impacted not just my life, but many other lives as well. The uses of cognitive behavior therapy were explored in this assignment and how they can be best used for certain clients.

For this group assignment we chose to do our project over suicide which is an important issues that many people face around the world. As counselors we are going to face clients who may be suicidal or have been suicidal in the past. It's imperative that we know how to approach these clients and give them the best care possible and the best treatments possible.

For this assignment, we had to select three different approaches to psychotherapy. This course took place during my first master's and back then I didn't know much about the different theories that existed so this assignment was a chance for me to explore those options. This was a research based assignment and it taught me a lot about each theory.

For this assignment we had to create a scenario where we as the counseling professional had to make decisions about whether or not this particular scenario was considered ethical or not. We also had to be specific about what we would do or should do as the counseling professional. These types of scenarios can happen whether we want them to or not. Sometimes we as counseling professionals are placed in difficult situations that are unavoidable.

For this assignment we had to create a guidance lesson for a certain school age group in this case I chose students in high school. The lesson focused on 9th graders taking a personality assessment and then choosing their career paths based on that assessment. I think that perhaps if I end up working with adolescents then maybe giving them a personality assessment may not be a bad idea since for some they are in a confusing time of their life. It may be a god idea to have clients fill out a personality assessment when they fill out their new client paperwork.

For this assignment we had to create out own handout explaining FERPA in simple terms. This all goes along with terms of confidentiality which is the most important law among professional counselors. This gives us the ability to build trusting relationships with our clients. Without a trusting relationship between the counselor and client, progress during therapy can't be made.

My time with Angelo State University has been eye-opening, informative, and exciting. I've been given the ability to learn and grow through courses and professors that have pushed us to keep learning and never stop asking questions. I'm still unsure about my future as an LPC. I don't know yet what lies ahead or how I will do on the exams that are yet to come. I know that it will be challenging and difficult as I navigate a new career and a new perspective on mental health. Being a school counselor has taught me a lot about people and what mental health means in our society today. It has showed me that now, more than ever people are in need of help, especially our adolescent groups. The pandemic has brought forth a new generation that had pushed mental health at the forefront of our society, so the importance of self-care and therapy can't be overstated. I know that there will always be a need for LPCs so it gives me hope that my future will be bright. I hope that I can give people comfort during their sessions and let them know that they are not alone.
