One of the parts of the video that really stuck with me a the quote about race "we talk about it, but it doesn't really go anywhere". I think that this is so true, as I feel like at time at my school we have talked about race, but after these conversations nothing changes. I feel this is the same in our society, we know there are people who are treated differently because of their race, however, with all of this knowledge, what are we doing to fix this? How are we going to change this? I do not have the answer, however, there is an issue I do not feel as a society we are changing this.

Why does race matter in Education? I do think it matters. I think the real question is why? Do children from different cultures learn differently? Why are Hispanic children being successful and in the same classroom the black students are not being successful. Same teacher same classroom etc. I think there needs to be an answer but I am not sure what it is. I do know we receive an enormous amount of training on how to teach ELL children. Do we need the same amount of training for other cultures? Are black children from Africa different from black children from the US does there need to be a different way to teach them? I donot know the answers.

This video pointed out that people are afraid to discuss race . It's important to start talking about race and hear other peoples perspective. We can definitely do that in the classroom and it can help us all understand each other more.

I'm curious as to what their "in-service" was. One of the activities must certainly have been to get people to realize they may be oblivious to the people around them who are struggling because of the burden of racism. I have a tough enough time surviving and thriving. I can't imagine dealing with the negativity of racism every single day.

The take that I take from the video is that people are so often caught up in their lives and focused on the issues that affect then that they rarely notice the issues that affect others. I feel as someone who is white and deals with little race issues on a daily basis I rarely think of reflect on what it is like for people of color on a daily basis. I think is hard for someone who did not live through racial struggles or stereotypes to really be able to know what others are going through. I guess after saying that I realize it is great that we are all taking course to try to understand our students better but what person of the teachers in our district are not taking these courses when they are neccessary to help all of our students be able to learn at their best ability?

Scott DeMarce This video did a great job summarizing our last class. What it is like to have privilege. The Latino man talked about going into a store and the people following him around, but his partner who is white they ignore. Being a white male, I do not always see all the privileges I have, but these classes have shown me otherwise. We get so caught up in our everyday lives that we do not see that other people of different races have unique challenges. I feel race does matter in education and I am excited to learning more about the topic in this class.
