In the first session we were given the task of a creating a devised scene to be filmed for film and TV, the first session we brain storms a lot of different ideas we thought we could use moving forward at first we thought we could create a show pilot based around the murder mystery genre, everyone seemed very on board with the idea but due to alot of absences We realized we would not have the time to be able to create and polished and interesting piece in he time we had . We then came up with the idea of being student at university and the trials and tribulations that they each go through. Everyone ageeed that this was a good idea as it was easy to relate to and would be humorous and fun to make.

Me and my partner gabby decided to based our scene around a movie night, however the movie might get derail when our two characters start getting frightening text message from an unknown source, the tension build quickly and the two characters fall into near hysteria, to the girls anger they scared by There friend Sam who reveals that she sent the messages, all three girls sit down to watch the rest of the movie but the peace is short lived when sam get her own scary unknown text.

With this all plan out myself and gabby started improving our way through the scene and through this were able to build our characters relationships a bit more and help develop the issues and problem they may be facing. For example Gabbys character is feeling devastated with how her exam went that morning and blames my character Olivia for her not being able to revise properly the night before, this from the start build a little bit of tension between the girls.

We wanted to highlight the amount of perssure university students are put under and how damaging it can be towards their friendship and relationship if they aren't able to cope. Although this was our aim at the very start of the process we soon switch to a comedic piece as it stuck to the tone that the rest of the scene had set.

When doing film and tv work we found that it's very important not to be over the top, this is because the camera will pick up every little facial expression you make so you don't have the struggle of trying to play for an entire audience and making your voice travels.

This was a really valuable technique to learn because it always helps me to measure how much expression or voice I need to put in my performance be it stage or screen

As part of film and Tv I was given the opportunity to direct some of my classes scene on we were in the film studio. Although there blocking was entirely their own I was able to direct the students on the cameras on which shoot I wanted to use and when.

This was a really fun and insighting experience to have and could be something I seriously think about pursuing, however it was also rather stressful, there are certain rules you have to follow which although seemed simple , were easily forgotten when the perssure of actually recording the scene set in.

I throughly enjoy getting to be the director regardless of the stress I feel like it really help me develop another skill and also help our class to really come together and work as team

At first me and gabby struggled trying to get back into the natural flow of the piece, I think part of this was because we were nervous about Performing in front of a camera for the first time. I think we were also worried about our performances as our characters not being strong enough and keeping up with other performances seen that day.

However after a few practice run we were able to fine the flow and again and I think me and gabby to really fun , interesting and strong performances and this help seal off a unit that I'm really happy about.

I really enjoyed this unit, this is because I think probably the most practical thing we've done that hasn't been a scripted play. I really enjoyed the journey from the start of the process to the end and I'm really proud of the work my class pulled together.

I found really interesting to get to Create work in a film studio and it though it was a really insightful experience on how that industry work and a great introduction to something might be working with in the furture.

I do feel that I could have been more connected to this unit and wished that I had become more engaged with it sooner but once I was I throughly enjoyed myself and felt like I had learnt alot from such a short amount of time

As a way to further out character we did a hot seating exercise where we were ask questions about our characters and how we feel about other character, we used this a platform to improve from and help us to further understand our characters.

Hot seating questions we were ask:
What's your relationship with Gabriela character?

What subject does Olivia studie?

What's your character favorite color?

I learnt a lot from my character form this, she is confident and speaks her mind , and is very willing to defend herself when she is accused of things that don't seem fair. She is also however caring and she doesn't mean to be rude or stubborn to her friends

Practitioners that influence us

One of the main practitioners the influence us greatly is Meisner. Meisner greatly encourage you to be spontaneous when acting which is greatly important when doing screen acting in order to make your work fresh. He also wanted to make sure actor were actively listen to the other actor they were in a scene with and reacting and responding to what they were saying. We also use muscle memory which is a Strasberg technique in which you call upon a past memory and use it to help build a atomsphere in and general feeling to the piece. For example the bickering between myself and Gabriela character I called back to bickering with my brother and the silly little argument we have.

Stanisflaski question and answer:

Who am I: Olivia marks

Where am I: university of Cambridge in the room share I share with other students

What time is it: early evening about to hold a movie night

What do I want: I want the movie night to be a sucess and for abi to forgive me for keeping her up the night before.

Why do I want it: to make my night more enjoyable and help abi get over the bad feeling abi has from the exam she has just taken.

How will I get it: by making sure abi has a good evening and enjoying the movie I've chosen to watch

What must I overcome to get my goal: I have to get over the text me and abi have reseived and the scare that they have both experienced.

Stanisflaski and naturalism when acting in front of a screen

The most comment form of acting is naturalism and it can often give the most powerful of performances by doing the simplest things, this mean that you could give the smallest performance in the world but it would still be seen and visable on the television. This however not work in theatre cause your acting will need to carry to the back of the auditorium so although you want to give a natural performance you need to keep it heighten a little bit to make sure it carries to everyone in the room.

You also have to be fully aware of cues because it's so natural and sometimes you can lose in all that's happening within the scene and miss cues. The reason for this that when your stage acting your performance are a lot bigger and cues are often very clear for every actor on stage and not easily missed however when working on screen you need to be constantly paying attention other wise you will get losted.
