Its official name is: State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. The climate in Rhode Island is temperate warm, maritime. The capital of the state is Providence (the settlement of Providence was founded in 1636). In Rhode Island, at the time when it was one of 13 colonies, a complete religious tolerance was introduced. The textile industry was developing there, as well as the jewelry and silver industries as well as machine tools. Currently, there are eight hospitals and seven universities in the city. The Providence area has service and production functions. In the past, the city was called "Beehive of Industry".

They are sold by the half-dozen or dozen in most seafood restaurants around the state. The quintessential summer meal in Rhode Island is chowder and clam cakes.

The official state drink of Rhode Island is coffee milk, a beverage created by mixing milk with coffee syrup.
