### Chapter 2 – Konrad Adenauer: Strategy of Humility

Adenauer rebuilt Germany after WWII, focusing on moral recovery before power. Kissinger writes he “recognized the need for moral reconstruction before political influence” (p. 55). His calm, patient leadership stabilized West Germany. In Rules for Rulers, he managed elites through Western alliances and careful democratic inclusion, securing loyalty with political coalitions.

---

### Chapter 3 – Charles de Gaulle: Strategy of Will

De Gaulle embodied France’s independence, insisting it “could not survive as a vassal of other nations” (p. 97). He used myth, charisma, and nationalism to unify the country. Kissinger sees him as a master of symbolic leadership. According to Rules for Rulers, de Gaulle used ideology and centralized power to control the military and bureaucracy.

---

### Chapter 4 – Richard Nixon: Strategy of Equilibrium

Nixon’s realpolitik reshaped Cold War diplomacy with China and the USSR. Kissinger highlights his skill in “structuring diplomacy to reflect a changing balance of power” (p. 136). He ruled through secrecy and elite networks. In Rules for Rulers, Nixon relied on controlling the military/intelligence levers—but fell when elite support collapsed during Watergate.

---

### Chapter 5 – Anwar Sadat: Strategy of Transcendence

Sadat shocked the world by making peace with Israel. Kissinger writes he “liberated Egypt from the prison of its own trauma” (p. 173). He led with emotion and moral vision. In Rules for Rulers, Sadat maintained elite control but used bold public spectacle (Jerusalem visit) as a lever. His assassination shows the cost of moving too fast.

---

### Chapter 6 – Lee Kuan Yew: Strategy of Excellence

Lee turned Singapore into a model state through meritocracy and discipline. Kissinger praises his “long-term vision” (p. 208). He tightly controlled media, civil service, and dissent. In Rules for Rulers, Lee secured the keys by rewarding competence and loyalty, blending elite control with public performance.

---

### Chapter 7 – Margaret Thatcher: Strategy of Conviction

Thatcher transformed Britain with firm economic reform and national pride. Kissinger says she “imposed coherence on a declining political system” (p. 248). She used directness and ideology over compromise. In Rules for Rulers, Thatcher used voter support and financial restructuring to shift elite incentives and cut off opposition.
