I am also interested in sustainable architectural practices with a main focus on adaptive reuse. This is a less community based solution to climate change- and more large scale within the architecture industry.

My most recent work has been dealing primarily with issues of social injustice such as domestic abuse, patriarchal control etc... But I have been a climate activist for years in the past, and I welcome this opportunity to get involved again in this sense. The climate crisis is arguably the most serious injustice carried out towards our planet and ourselves, particularly towards the lower classes.

My interest is Permaculture, as I see it as a reparative philosophy and practical and realistic method of implementing sustainable ways of living in all areas from food production, to architecture, energy production, waste management, social structure, and so on. You name it, and there is a permaculture answer for all the issues facing humanity, and it is based on understanding and working with nature, collaborative approaches, harvesting available forms of energy and stewarding nature, instead of fighting against it.

Permaculture is in line with the Gaia Hypothesis that the Earth is a living being and any holistic vision of the interconnection of all forms of life. I am currently researching mycelia as an example of an adaptive species that we have much to learn from, particularly in terms of interconnection.

The climate emergency makes me feel hopeless but permaculture and mycelia restore some faith, and that's what I like to focus on.

some initial ideas including a proposal for a site specific installation that deals with data visualisation by physically obstructing the passage of the viewer through a space, ending with the need to collaborate with others in order to exit the room.

I believe that scientific and rational responses to the climate crisis also need poetic and aesthetic approaches to achieve more profound transformations in the collective understanding of the problems being confronted, the responsibilities to be assumed, and the actions to be taken.

• biodegradable building materials- combining mycelium with agricultural waste such as straw it is possible to form strong, lightweight and eco-friendly composite materials

• mycelium bricks and panels- mycelium can be moulded into various shapes- allowing the creation of bricks, panels, and other building components.

• there is research going on at the moment to look at mycelium as a structural material- it could contribute to lightweight and sustainable structural elements such as columns

• ecological insulation- mycelium based materials have good insulating properties and can help regulate temperature, provide acoustic insulation and contribute to energy efficiency

• their ability to capture carbon from the atmosphere;

• Their mastery of recycling, reusing everything that is organic enriching the soil;

• Their function in moving resources among plants and trees, helping forests;

• Their tasty meat-free opportunities

• Their positive effects on brains in the fight against depression, eating disorders and the rest

• Their medicinal properties in the fight against cancer and other conditions;

• Their usage in sustainable architecture; ( as Sophie expanded on)

• Their powerful adaptive and collaborative nature, providing metaphors for how to live above ground
