I was at UofM for my first semester of University/College, taking my business degree there. That semester was painful, I did not like the Asper program, I do better in a small-school atmosphere. I then decided that I would transfer to Red River in the Winter semester to finish my degree. I based that decision off of the idea that it would be a smaller classroom and I would be able to talk to my professors and classmates. Also, I talked to some local small-business owners and they recommended I go to a more hands-on college/university, for it is more recognizable on the resume than Aspers. One week in November of my UofM semester, Kyle (the volleyball coach), asked me to join a practice, he needed extra bodies. I said yes, and after practice he asked if I would think about going ot Providence. Now, all the factors of Red River were at Prov as well. I figured if I could play a sport and get an education, that it would be beneficial for me to come here even if it was a little more pricey. Now I realize that being active while in school is a great outlet for students. It helps our bodies stay healthy and lead to better brain function for our studies. That part was something I discovered along the journey of being here.

Choosing to come to Providence was an easy decision for me. One reason was that it was close (only a 10 minute drive) making commuting easy and cheaper then anywhere else. Another reason would be sports, coming to Prov meant I got to play soccer at a higher level and even get to play in the States. With this also comes getting to be apart of a team and meeting new people and developing good friendships. I had also attended the sports camps for several summers which gave me an idea of what the community at Prov was like. I also liked the idea of having smaller class sizes as I was used to being in a small school my whole life so having smaller classes would make the transition a bit easier. I also knew several people who had attended or who were still attending Prov and had good experiences here and gave me an idea of what being a Providence student was like

I choose Providence because it had a Business Program and a Christian University. I also wanted smaller class sizes so going to a big university was not something I was interested in. The Library was also I big part of which university I chose. For me research starts in the library so having a well stocked library and good librarians were major factors.

I decided which university to attend, based on the opportunity I had to play soccer at a post-secondary level. The Providence women's coach had found me and offered me a spot on the team, which was the biggest game changer. Other things that eventually drew me to Providence was the smaller class sizes, as I was used to a small Christian school in high school; and the opportunity to not only play in Canada but also in and American league for sports, allowing me to travel more than I would at another school. The last factor was the option I had to move to a different province and meet new friends and form new life long connections, well growing in my faith.

My decision for coming to Providence was based on two factors. I had applied to
many other universities before this decision and I've noticed that I was cared for and paid attention from Providence more than any other public universities I've applied. This kind of interaction dynamic made me rethink my choice of going to a more recognizable or prestigious university. Having never lived in Manitoba and unfamiliar with the area, I thought that it would be advantageous for me to settle at a university where I'm better cared for and valued.

The second factor that I found out is that Prov is the only university in Manitoba where I'm able to get the Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration for three years. Having spent a few years in workforce after high school graduation, I figured that it'd be better to pursue a program where it's less time consuming compared to other conventional university programs that requires 4 years if not 5 years worth of time to complete.

I started at U of W. Originally my goal was to go to Trinity Western university. However, that did not happen. Going to U of W was, different. I'm used to being a student athlete and this time I was not. So, it was a bit different but still had fun! Anyway, Providence came up one day with my dad, because he used to work here before. And him and I had a talk, and I left the rest up to God. I was able to get in contact with the Head Men's soccer coach, and was given the opportunity to have a trial with the coach. The following year I am a student athlete again, and attending Providence University College. Today I believe Providence is a great fit for me. It has helped me grow in many different ways, and for that I am truly grateful. It was a no brainer to choose between U of W, or Providence. I am able to be a student athlete again, and feel more like myself again! Being a Christian, and going to a Christian school so far, I've enjoyed and made so memories that will last with me for a life time to come! More so, being able to play the sport you love and being a student athlete was cherry on top of the ice cream. Travelling, making friendships that turn into a brotherhood is something special that will always be a part of me. Overall, I'm grateful that I made the move to come to Providence University College. And work hard to finish my degree and graduate! It has truly been a blessing attending Providence! Go Pilots Go!!
