In order to make sure this article was what I was looking for, I read the abstract. Once, this article seemed to be a great fit, I read the remainder of the article. I focused on the introduction, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion. Although I was focused on the results as it pertained to my research interest. I wanted to know if this study showed results in a way that could change how education is taught to patients.

Relational Coordination Theory was not something I have heard of before. This theory uses seven layers of collaboration across the healthcare system. While utilizing four different ways of communication and then utilizes three dimensions of quality relationships. The idea was that by implementing one change in the healthcare setting affected staff engagement.

This research article utilized the ICU and their connections with other departments to improve patient experience. They created a BINGO board to nominate members of other teams other than their own who showed coordination in patient care. This ranged from CNA's, pharmacy, doctors, nurses, RT, Patient, and the case manager. The department who filled their BINGO board in all seven categories received a pizza party. This prompted improved communications across the board to improve patient outcome.

The discussion section of this article provided insight on how implementing Relational Intervention increases hospital communication. This improves learning across the departments and improves patient outcomes.

What do you need to learn to be able to understand the sections of the report that included unfamiliar information?

After reading this article, I believe that it helped me understand the way that we implement other departments into the care we provide to our patients. However, by looking further into the relational interventions I think that many ideas can prove to be beneficial to our patients. Maybe by directly involving patients into their care by utilizing this model it could prove beneficial to their learning.
