Back then, many People just had Money to buy Basic Needs, for example food. They just tried to feed the Family and if they bought luxury items like cars, they bought a normal car instead of e.g. a lamborghini. Today it´s way different. Lot´s of People buy expensive objects, even if they have Little food. Nowadays, your items represent your wealth. (Onur)

There are several types of ethical consumerism but in my opinion the most effective type is Fair-Trade. Marked products with the Fair-Trade label may be a little bit more expensive but therefore even producers in development countries are guarenteed to get enough money so they don't have to starve. You also don't have to worry about the possibility these products have bad quality because then, they won't get the Fair-Trade label.

According to dictionaries Consumerism is the purchasing and consuming of goods and materials in excess of basic needs. But what does that mean?
Well, a very simple explanation is to buy something you don't need to stay alive. In my opinion this explanation is also quite accurate. Sometimes I'm surprised how easy people get convinced to buy something they won't ever need in their life just because a shop assistant told them how good or essential their new product is.

Today many people just buy things because they can afford it, but in fact they do not really need them. There are many impulsive shoppers for example when they see something that is reduced or they can make a bargain they buy it immediately. People in the past only bought the basic needs when there was enough money. Sometimes clothes were given from generation to the next one there were not any unneccesary purchases. People also worked way more harder than today. (Merdan)

In my point of view buying local is the most effective way of ethical consumerism. Then you know always where your goods comes from. If you buy local you prevent long distances, that your goods have to make. Through this you can make sure that less CO2 gets into the air, because less ships, cars or trains have to transport your goods. This shows that buying local is economical friendly.
Another point is, that you know the farmers where you buy your goods. When you buy food you know what herbicides the farmer used or how his animals could live before they get slaughtered.
