Read the two case studies in Fry, Ketteridge & Marshall (2015) and state on the board how you might be able to incorporate one of the approaches into your own teaching.

Comment on at least one other posts (esp. how that relates to your teaching)

Developing a portfolio

I have used a portfolio assessment previously and the idea of giving micro-assessments out on top of this each week to use in class is excellent. I think it would be hugely beneficial to both students and tutors. For students, it would enable them to recognise their personal development and also to critique their own work and that of peers. This in turn would enable them to see how they compare within their class and use developments within the summative assessments. For tutors, it would not only enable tutors to get to know their students better, including their current knowledge and understanding, but may help engage students and provide a more structured routine of homework that is of use within class. Where I have given tasks out in the past such as reading an article, most students have not bothered to carry this out. However, if they knew the work would be used in the subsequent lesson, this may encourage action. I think I would tailor micro-assessments each week to tie in with the following lesson so that the theme was already being explored and understood.
