It was written to symbolise the first meeting between the Allies and Germany after the ToV was ratified to show the new dynamic created between the Allies and Germany.  Lloyd George is threatening Germany at cannon-point whilst telling them to put down their spiked hat, this hypocrisy and unreasonableness represents the mindset of some Britons that the Treaty was unreasonably harsh. It is also reflective that Germany had to demilitarize whereas the Allies did not. The 3 figures on one side of the table represent how the Allies were ganging up against Germany and despite the war being over they were still united against Germany by not letting them join the LoN at the time of this cartoon. Therefore this treaty was written to criticize the harshness and the unfairness of the treaty. It was written to criticize the British government as many Brits saw the ToV as too harsh and restrictive on German.

6  - excellent interpretation of the message - but make use of the language of the exam so the examiner is fully aware of the fact that you are talking about the message (this is why i dropped the answer to 6 - be aware of examiner mindset and what they are trained to look for it ). I like the fact you have shown the changing nature of British attitude - also note that although one aspect of the LON is disarmament that not all of those joining follow through - only the losing powers are forced onto this. Lloyd George is demanding for Germany to disarm to the maximum level and take off its ‘spiked hat’, which represents the German army. The main message of this cartoon was that the intense reduction of Germany’s army through the Treaty of Versailles was ultimately hypocritical: Lloyd George is aggressively demanding a weak Germany to disarm while pointing a giant cannon at Germany, with two fully armed soldiers at Lloyd George’s side. This portrays how Britain and the allies had not considered disarming despite Wilson’s 14 Points stating that all countries should disarm, and only forcing Germany to do so. Therefore, the cartoonist has a negative view on how the allied victors dealt with Germany and its army, as well as implying the allies were unfair and too harsh with Germany.

Germany was not allowed to join the LON as its punishment for starting the war. This shows the harshness of the TOV and was representing how the first meeting between the Allies and Germany were. The idea of diktat amongst the German people was spread as they had no choice but to accept Treaty’s harsh terms that they know were going to hurt them immensely. Furthermore, it says ‘what else did we fight for, if not to abolish militarism?’ It is demonstrating how hyporcritical the Allies are as they are claiming that German militarism was the cause of WWI, yet here they are forcing Germany to accept their terms with use of cannon pointing directly at Germany. Additionally, this then show that Britain and its allies are ignoring Wilson’s 14 points saying that all countries should be disarmed to prevent future wars. To conclude, this cartoon’s purpose is to show that the Allies are hypocrites and the unfairness of the treaty towards Germany. 

7/8 this is a great answer clear structure - just add a sentence or two more about the fact that this is a British cartoon and that the mood in Britain is changing, from harsh punishments to a more pacifist approach. When the League of Nations was founded it really did change opinions
