I chose this passage because it shows why Michael Chose to write the book about his experiences.
This passage stands out because people were using Michaels picture to say the holocaust was not real. This passage make some wonder who on earth believes the holocaust was not real. It was significant because it shows how people who don’t know what they are talking about can use resources in the wrong way.

I chose this passage because it shows when officer Schmitt told Michael’s parents that they were all going to a factory to work and not to a concentration camp yet. The passage stands out because officer Schmitt a nazi official helped a Jewish family survive. I wonder what compelled Schmitt to help them even though he was a nazi. This is significant because Nazis were supposed to kill Jewish people but officer Schmitt spared them which saved their lives.

I chose this passage because it shows some of the horrific things Nazis did. This passage stands out because the Nazis forced the man to dig a grave for him and his wife and child while they were all undressed. Once the man finished digging they were all killed and they fell backwards into the hole.

I chose this passage because it shows how Ruth had to convert to a Christian when she was young so she wasn’t killed during the holocaust. It stood out because it is horrifying to see a child given away and changed so they can hopefully escape nazi persecution. It makes me wonder how Ruth coped when she was reunited with her family who has completely different beliefs compared to hers. This is significant because it is similar to what many children had to do to stay alive. While not every story is the same Manaus children had to change to escape Nazis.

I chose this passage because it describes what prisoners looked like when they were starved and neglected inside the concentration camps. This passage stands out because it describes in detail what newcomers would see if they were looking at the prisoners in real life so the reader can imagine what those people would have felt like inside the camps. This passage makes me wonder how Nazis could live with themselves knowing they were starving and neglecting men, women, and children until they were killed or slowly wasted away until they eventually died. This passage is significant because it shows just how terrible concentration camps were.

KI chose this passage because it represents how children just like Michael Bornstein were ripped away from their parents and either killed immediately or sent to try and survive inside the camp. This passage stands out because it is the moment Michael is ripped away from his mother at 4 years old and forced to survive on his own inside of a place where the guards main goal is to kill him. This passage makes me wonder how many children had to experience the pain of being ripped from their parents and usually killed afterwards. This passage stands out because it shows the truth of how children were ripped away from their parents not knowing if they would ever see them again.

I chose this passage because it was the whole reason Michael Bornstein decided to write survivor story club and share his story. It stood out because people used the photo and video taken by the Russians to try and claim that the holocaust was not real and that the people in it were healthy. The passage makes my wonder what kind of person honestly believes the holocaust was fake and thinks they have the right to use photos taken during the holocaust for fake claims. This is significant because it caused contributed The the writing of survivors club I’d very crucial evidence of what really did happen during holocaust liberations.

I chose this because even after the holocaust people were still prejudice towards Jews and it is very sad. This stands out because five men appeared at the house accusing everyone to be Jewish. While they were Jewish Kristina-Ruth was not and so show convinced the men the emails was Christian and they left. This is significant because while the holocaust had ended people still threatened Jews so they still feared for their well enigma and in this situation everyone was just lucky Kristina had been given up to a Christian church. I wonder what would’ve happened if Kristina had not been Christian. For me this passage stood out because it perfectly illustrated how people were still treated badly after the holocaust.

I chose this passage because Michael gets excited over a bag full of strawberries that was his grandmas parting gift. This s something that many people will consider a gift but others might take the strawberries for granted if they were gifted them. This passage stood out because it shows how excited Michael got over strawberries. He didn’t get to eat strawberries for a long time while he was running from Nazis so getting them as a gift was very important. However many people today may take strawberries for granted not noticing how fortunate they are. I wonder how long it had been since Michael had strawberries.

I chose his passage because it shows how Michael still wasn't treated normally even when he reached America. Michael had tattoos on his arm and an accent which pushed other children his age away. He was always seen as a misfit. This stands out because many children who reached America were also probably treated differently. Not necessarily bad but definitely different. I wonder if any holocaust survivors ever got their tattoos removed. This is all significant because it shows that even years later Michael still remembers how he was always treated different no matter where he was.
