In my home, we don't use live pine trees, only artificial Christmas trees. We avoid plastic packaging and wrap gifts with recycled paper. We are mindful in choosing presents, avoiding excessive buying and opting for recyclable materials. When shopping for the Christmas dinner, we use cloth bags or eco bags. This year, we're going to try to have a vegan meal to reduce the excessive consumption of meat.

Christmas is a family celebration, but we can all do our part for the planet.

For this perfect Christmas, let's give a gift to our home. It doesn't ask anything of us, like adults who often don't ask for anything, but we can't say the same for children. I'm talking about our planet, or Earth as you like to call it, but this Christmas it's our STAR! One tip I use to have a more sustainable Christmas is to buy plastic trees or even make my own. But everyone loves to use all those cute decorations. Instead, my mom and I create our own decorations – we're original! It's also a great way to bond with family and have fun together!

A recipe for vegan Christmas cookies

Ingredients 2 ripe bananas 1 cup of oatmeal Broken chocolate pieces as needed

Instructions:

• Mash the bananas with a fork, add the oatmeal, and mix.

• Then add the broken chocolate pieces.

• Shape the cookies on a baking sheet.

• Bake in the oven at 180°C for 20 minutes.

• Let them cool, and Mmm! Happy Sustainable Holidays!

To make this Christmas more sustainable, I will:

• Reuse the Christmas tree decorations and create new ones with pine cones I collected during the summer.

• Use the Christmas tree lights for less time, turning them off when we go to bed.

• Buy Kraft paper to wrap Christmas presents, which we can later use to light the fireplace.
