In my opinion, I do not believe all education is positive. It is positive in the sense that its purpose is to educate students in order for them to understand more about a particular topic or subject which could help them achieve their desired profession. However, not all teachers would implement studies on well-being or happiness whilst they are teaching the usual academic subjects. Hence, some students may be academically smart but to a certain extent, they may have considerably low well-being. An example can be found in many cases of students who are smart yet they feel depressed and never satisfied with what they achieve which could lead to death in certain cases.

In my opinion, not all education positive since most schools focus only on academics, especially in Asia. In Asia, students are forced to focus on main subjects like Science and Maths whether or not they’re actually interested in those subjects. Focusing too much on subjects that individuals aren’t interested in might decrease their mental well-being and increase the amount of people suffering from life dissatisfaction. Schools in Asia do not prioritize the mental health and well-being of students, they mainly focus on academic achievements.
-Aurel Carissa Rahardjo

In my opinion, not all education is positive. Although education’s main purpose is to educate students so that they can enhance their knowledge, soft skills, and hard skills, many schools/educational institutions forget that wellbeing is also an essential aspect of learning. In other words, they focus solely on learning and not on improving/maintaining the learners’ wellbeing and happiness. For instance, it’s not rare nowadays to see that education is causing severe stress and unhappiness in students. And in many cases, instead of helping students overcome their burnout phase or struggle, teachers label them as incompetent or lazy, discouraging them in the long run.

Many school put immense pressure and high workload for their students in order for them to give higher academic achievement but it is not balanced with high effort in maintaining student well-bring. As such many of the students cannot even feel satisfied of their academic achievement simply because they are not happy in the journey to achieve it.

I believe all education has its benefit to a learner. However, whether the education system is positive or not depends on the approach taken by teachers or curriculum creators. Teachers have the power and influence over students in a classroom. Even if the subject of teaching is easy or difficult, effective learning really depends on the teacher's approach towards students. Some teachers do not incorporate positive education, which in turn prompts students to view a lesson as negative. However, even if a subject has many challenges, a teacher incorporating positive education can motivate and encourage students to study and take interest in the matter while maintaining positive wellbeing. Overall, whether an education is positive or not depends on the approach taken by individuals with influence.

Both the content that is being taught and the way that the teaching is done can make it either positive or negative. As an instance, although the lessons that are being taught in a school can have a great level of quality, the teachers who work there might have a lack of consideration for the students’ mental health. Education that is positive should be thoughtful of the students and their capabilities. Unfortunately, there can be schools that do not care as much as they should in regards to it.

I think not all education provided for students is positive as well-being is not the main priority for most schools in Indonesia. For example, at my high school, we glorified academic achievement and accomplishment. Some teacher teaches us in a strict and traditional way, which caused the school to overthrow any subject related to student well-being. Some schools also feel like they have some sort of race about material plans that need to be taught without overthinking the valuable outcomes for the students, which can become a severe pressure for students' well-being. Some schools, on the other hand, teach us excellent skills and important lessons through a variety of activities monitored by the school counselor, but this has little impact on us because it appears to be done solely for formality. Overall, in my perspective, positive education is not properly integrated into the teaching curriculum, regulations, and even practices of the educational system.

However, not all approaches are able to make the students feel safe and comfortable in learning. For example, many teachers have the tendency to conduct their lessons under an authoritarian approach. Although it may be seen as effective, in the long term, this system can make the students lose their excitement in learning, view the lesson as a burden, and end up not liking the subjects. For example, in guiding their students they do not use harmful tactics like fear to build student's motivation. I do think that they may focus on building internal motivation instead and move towards the building of growth mindsets for the students

This may be because people argue that the sole purpose of schools is to educate and develop students' skills for the future. Those who develop education systems may not take into consideration the differences in mental capacities of each student, and the consequences should a student not be happy. An example would be that schools go at their own pace, and students are all expected to follow that pace. If they fell behind, they need to catch up no matter what. If they fail to catch up, then they would probably fail tests, assignments, or even the class. There are not a lot of schools that would grant tolerance for those who may have mentally-heavy things going on.

In my perspective, all educational institutions strive to provide the greatest possible education to their students. I've never heard of an education that wants its students to be burdened and stressed. However, it turns out that not all teachers are capable of implementing positive teaching methods and nurturing their students. As a result, it appears that students are lack enthusiasm to learn. Teachers are only concerned with the score rather than the learning process of their students, which can have a negative impact on their mental health and study drive. Furthermore, I discovered that under Indonesia's education system, students are pushed to learn things that they do not particularly like. I firmly believe that students have the freedom to select the subjects that best suit their interests.

Perhaps the intention of education is positive, but the realization isn’t always so. I have read articles in the past about the negative impact of the current education system on the well-being of students all over the world. Stress, anxiety, and depression are among a few. If the goal of education was to ensure that young people would be able to contribute productively in their adulthood, then causing them to have to deal with mental health problems is not the way to go. Issues with mental health, such as mental disorders, can instead hamper one’s ability to function well in their occupation. They could also have detrimental effects on their ability to function socially, which puts the general well-being of society in a state of concern. At that point, people may have trouble forming friendly and reciprocal relationships with one another. Therefore, I would argue that at this stage, the realization of education is not positive, but the intention is. I think it is important to dissect how education has been implemented thus far, and improve it to ensure that it does not pose any negative impacts on the well-being of students.

I don't think all education are positive if it is according to the theory of positive psychology. In Indonesia, most parents expect their children to study in a notable university. Teachers in school mostly do the same in expecting the best result for their student and only teaches subjects during class. There were very few teachers that I know were aware to teach well-being lessons during class. Other than that, the pressure of being accepted in notable university lead many student to take extra courses outside school that ends at night. I don't think it's positive at all since students may neglect their well-being in order to obtain academic achievements.

In reality, not all education is positive. This may be caused by the low mental health literacy, especially in LDC. Furthermore, local culture and customs may contribute to negative education. Asian countries are often fixated with a certain standard of intelligence, such as excelling in maths or science. While excelling in more artistic fields are often perceived to be less valuable compared to the latter. Thus, students who are gifted in those areas are not often facilitated which could lead to feelings of hopelessness and lost. Although positive education is considered to be the best approach to learning, educational infrastructures and quality of education providers need to be taken into account prior to implementation.

I believe that not all education is positive. As stated by Seligman in his positive education video, even school principals and the Ministers of Education stated that school is more about the traditional curriculum rather than well-being and happiness. In my opinion, this kind of mindset is still being implemented by many schools in Indonesia, which focus mainly on scores and rarely provide education on positive psychology. Many parents also show supportive attitudes towards this mindset, which may cause the students' well-being to become worse.
