We asked fans what they would expect from their favourite artist and they were very helpful into giving us an insight as to what they would expect from our video.

The first question was: Q. What would you expect to see in terms of location of a music video of this genre?
Answer: In terms of location they said they would expect to see a lot of alleyways as it reveals to the audience about the hidden parts of the city that no one knows about; as well as showing us an insight to where they grew up. Also, they would expect to see places with graffiti, car parks, apartments, party venues, neighbourhoods and estates.

The second question was: Q. In terms of performance what would you expect to see from Paigey or any artist in this genre?
Answer: There would be a lot of body gestures and movements, eye contact with the audience, close ups, actions to correlate with lyrics with the song; friends (boys/girls) dancing or chilling in the background.

The third question was: Q. What type of style would you expect to see from Paigey or any artist of this genre?
Answer: They would expect to see a lot of transitions from the different locations (a very smooth one),  quick cutting, less than 10 base tracks, colour grading for special effects and slow-motion. In terms of style of clothing they would be expecting to see black apparel, props such as balacalava, baseball bats etc, black bags etc.

Overall, our music video would pretty much use their suggestions especially the heavy use of colour grading. The reason why we couldn't female grime artists is because its quite unusual for women to be in the grime scene.

Stormzy's fans range from the ages 18-24; though the age range isn't necessarily the same as Paigey's which includes a younger audience below the age of 18. We found this out by contacting her Instagram followers and we saw the majority of them were around the ages 16-18. 

Stormzy's fans also have a left winger viewpoint. Left wingers tend to have collectivism ideologies and have a connection with the people. Whereas conservatives are much more reserved and care about the economy and have an individualistic mindset. 

Moreover, his fans have a keen interest on mobile applications, video games, sex and relationships. This is very typical of the genre that we are doing as young people nowadays like doing this.

His fans also listen to Kendrick Lamar and the Weeknd. Both artists are known for being deep lyricalists. This is common in the genre as fans of Stormzy are fans of his deep lyrics and amazing word play. Just like Paigey, she has a few puns and word plays.

  • The growth of Grime has increased rapidly ever since the mid 2000's. Grime MC's can be found in Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield and Nottingham. 
  • There is probably less than 20 female grime artists compared to vast majority of male grime artists.
