Democratic governments are governments that are for the people and by the people. In a democratic government citizens of the country hold the power to rule. A authoritarianism government is the complete opposite. This form of government is defined as the power being held by an individual or group and the people have no say.

Which type of governments are the most common in our modern world? Why do you think this is?

I think that a republic government is the most common government in our modern world. I think this for quite a few reasons. First off, when you look at "The World Fact-book" the majority of the different governments for each country is a republic government. A republic government is defined as a system of limited government in which the people are the ultimate source of governmental power. Our government in the US is very similar to a republic government. A lot of countries in the world have a government system similar to us but not quite the same. Power is typically held by the people. The people elect representatives and there is an elected or nominated president. A lot of governments, prior to the 20th century were controlled by a monarch. The people didn't like that as much and got the best next thing; a republic government.
