Using books to incorporate different cultural backgrounds. Selecting authors from diverse backgrounds allows the students to hear from different perspectives. For example during Hispanic Heritage Month you can read books about making tamales that celebrate Hispanic culture.

Include folktales and myths from what that culture believes. Example would be "The Legend of El Dorado" a myth about treasure.

Make the lesson visual by adding art and music from the culture. For example you could use art from Frida Kahlo and play Mariachi music in the classroom.

Bring history into the lesson by teaching historical events that happened within the culture. Example: September 16 is Mexican Independence Day.

Before beginning a lesson invite student participation. For example if you are doing a lesson on storytelling ask the student to share a story about their family and culture.

Find ways to to connect the lesson to the shared experience. For example what was different and what was the same. How did different backgrounds handle a similar situation.

Have the course materials in the students native language if necessary.

Allow for group activities or peer to peer work that celebrate different cultures. For example you could try an activity as a group like building cornhusks from pioneer days.
