The Depth of Canon by Sharon Mahingo

My padlet exploration this week will be exploring more deeply into canon. I will be exploring two different American Symphony Orchestras and their repertoires to figure out what music missing. Exploring such a maliciously practiced type of genre is a task in itself, but I also will try and track down the piece of music that’s often not included in these pieces. Then, I will be explaining how such a group could possible make their music more innovative. Lastly, I will try and figure out if I see myself in the music that is being performed. In my opinion, every person has a song that in different emotions and different times in their life can explain everything they are feeling and going through perfectly. I feel like being able to extract such an emotion from their listeners is a very important aspect of music. Therefore, being able to see myself in one of the American Symphony Orchestras great pieces will bring be able to extract a different type of emotion and that isn’t felt though other types of music.

Symphony Orchestra...what kind of music is missing?

· I started out with listening to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. These Orchestras were very talented and unique in their different styles. Although, I think the type of music that was missing, is more modern music that would draw a younger or more diverse crowd that would really focus and appreciate their genre of song in a different light.

How does the group “innovate” musically?

· I think this group can “innovate” musically by doing some pieces outside the canon as well as more modern music. I believe that the music performed now is beyond great and something never to be changed or forgotten but I also believe that we should not be close-minded to all the different possibilities that music offers, and the different ways you can experience it.
