Susantri Permai as suspects, in the case of killing an orangutan in the Kapuas, Central Kalimantan.

This case adds to the list of orangutan conflicts in the oil palm plantation area. This conflict cause by massive deforestation which led to food shortage for those animals. They didn't have choice except went to human area to seek food.

The killing of orangutans have drawn criticism from many parties and environmental activists. This crime is considered not only an individual crime, but also an environmental crime because it will decrease population of orangutans.

Conflict with humans, shrinking habitats, hunting activities and habitat fragmentation had decrease 25 percent of orangutans in the past ten years.

Collaboration among various parties to protect orangutan habitat has actually been initiated in Indonesia, namely in Wehea-Kelay Bentang Alam which has been established by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry as an Orangutan Corridor Essential Ecosystem Area. 

To make it success need contribution of everyone involves governments, communities, the private sector and LSMwho are committed to preserving orangutans through the protection of their habitat.
