Comparing and Contrasting Pinterest and Pocket.

Both Pinterest and Pocket have their pros and cons when it comes to managing information. Pinterest is primarily an image/visual based application which allows you to curate a personal feed which showcases your various interests, whereas Pocket appears to be an application mainly centred around sharing articles and written information. Personally, I found Pinterest much more intuitive and easier to use as I just had to select a few of my interests and it instantly curated my feed to show me various related images and I could keep scrolling for as long as I wanted to continue seeing more. Additionally, it was much easier to view and organise my profile on Pinterest as the interface was very clear and all of the posts that I had saved instantly appeared on my profile without me having to jump through any hoops. In contrast, while the content I found on Pocket was interesting and useful to read, I found the interface to be quite confusing and it was hard to locate the articles that I had saved, nor could I instantly see them on my Pocket profile. The algorithm also took much longer to take my interests into consideration and start recommending the appropriate content whereas with Pinterest this process was instant. In the future, I can definitely see myself continuing to use Pinterest to visually document my interests, but I am unsure whether or not I will return to Pocket.

As a user of a wide range of social media tools and websites, I think that it is most important that privacy policies inform their users of the exact data they are planning to collect and store, as well as give them freedom of choice when it comes to the data they allow the website to collect from them. I also think security and accessibility are very important so that all potential users are as well-informed as they can be prior to signing up, thus I have included a language clause in my policy. Regarding omissions, I personally do not place much emphasis on "understanding the use and purpose of what you are using/creating" as mentioned in the 5 Rights outlined by Anderson (2017) as I feel like this should be explained elsewhere and does not belong in the privacy policy.
