I observed students with Autism, ADHD, and really bad behavioral issues. They all had their own ways of learning.

Teaching and Learning Setting:

Grade level: 3rd grade

Number of Students: 23 in the class, 4 with special needs.

Location: I observed at Oak Street Elementary School. All of the students were pulled out for certain subjects but stayed in class for most.

The gen-ed teacher treated the kids with special needs the same as the rest of the class. When they were pulled out, it was because the gen-ed class was doing something more difficult. When pulled out, they would do similar activities, but with modifications.

I believe the students appreciate the teacher treating them the same as everyone else. I think they also get happy when they get pulled out of class because they like the change of setting.

While I did enjoy my time with the students, I don't think I would ever be able to work directly with them. I love seeing them succeed, but it's also a tough job because you never know what their next move may be.
