From what I have seen it went through one overall change from fat and monstrous to a noble and eloquent fellow. From that change it then began to branch off into every genre from its instant likeability and success from Legosi's Dracula. This branching into different genres would make one initially be confused as to what vampires really are. Are they funny, scary, lustful, heroic, demonic or a great father? The answer I have found is that if you focus solely on the intentions of the vampire, you are missing the entire point of why it is there in the first place. Vampires are to me, an analogy for a greater evil. Whether it be the vampire itself or what it is fighting with in the film there is something bigger the author or director is trying to make us see.
