I'm not sure if this counts but my grandfather would go work in the United States and send money to my family back in Mexico. I cant say exactly when this happened but my mom can recount it, so I imagine this being in the 1970-1980s

Unfortunately, the only people I really know on a more personal level to ask that question is my family, all of which immigrated to American post segregation. I can make an assumption though. My grandfather has since passed but he had worked in American at some point to provide for his family in Mexico. I can assume he faced poor working conditions or lower wages.

The Choctaw people were represented in the 2025 movie Sinners. The tribe was included in the production of the movie to keep their portrayal accurate. I enjoyed seeing them being a part of the movie and getting to learn about how their culture interacted with the story.

I'm not sure if this counts but I used to be an avid movie watcher and I remember seeing and owning a few movies that centered around the holocaust. They're pretty well known so I wouldn't say its an original experience but The Book Thief and The Boy in Striped Pajamas was definitely an eye opener when I watched them at that age (like 11 years old)

Last year in one of me social studies class my teacher had the class watch this social experiment where a typical white Christian man went to live with a Muslim family for a few months. It was an older video I think, maybe some years after 9/11 but the man had to integrate into the family and practice their religious rituals and wear clothing he never had before. It was a cool video to watch because for the first time he began to realize how Muslim people were treated unfairly and how people looked at him because of it. So it gave me some perspective as to what its like for that group of people

This one is a little vague since my family are all immigrants but Iv never hear them speak about anything unusual about religion in America. They are all catholic, so I have to imagine there was not the norm at some point, especially for my grandparents but they've never spoken about anything out of the ordinary

I am an atheist. My entire family in catholic. My parents didnt enforce it bluntly, so I came to my own conclusions and came to be what I am now. My dad is seemingly the most understanding of it. My dad had been pretty vocal of how religion very prevalent in his childhood. Despite him being understanding of me he still wanted to make me go to church his him and his wife. So I moved out lol

I do remember hearing news of Asian people (no matter what their ethnicity is) getting a lot of hate during the pandemic. No matter if they were Chinese, Korean, Japanese, pacific islander, they were all lumped together. Not to mention the president at the time calling it "the China virus"

Boycotting Israel. Eurovision has allowed Israel to participle in the incoming Eurovision event and in response, several countries including Spain and the Netherlands, have withdrawn from the event. I applaud them for doing so because it seems like everyone and their mother would like to act like there isn't a genocide currently happening. They have more spine than the United States who continues to endorse and supply Israel with weapons and funding to continues committing war crimes.

Some people, not all, who are aligned with Christianity, tend to be more privileged than people who are not. They have the benefit of being the majority religion in the country. Many people who Arnt Christian can be treated differently because of that. Their religion practices Arnt questioned the way others do. In fact, sometimes Christan's are the ones persecuting other people for not aligning themselves with what they deem to be correct or adhere to passages from the bible. Iv been told myself that ill go to hell for not believing. Its a hurtful thing to say especially when it comes from someone who claims to be your friend.

I think this would affect me in the way that it makes my life better knowing people are able to love freely. I exist in many spaces that have a population of lgbtq people, they're my friends, they're in social spaces online. They get to be happy, and happy. It feels like the quality of my life improves as well even if im not necessarily a part of the group because I get to know that the people I care about can thrive.
