While Shakespeare makes clear that Cleopatra does in fact love Antony, it is also evident that she favors highly dramatic scenarios; similar to how Sharpay has a major crush on Troy while managing to leave a trail of drama everywhere she goes. The lyrics "when you dream there's a chance you'll find a little laughter
or happy ever after," fits Cleopatra as it hints at a love made for two. Sharpay's shift of tone and pace from the original song to her version, by adding smoke and a spicy wardrobe, parallels Cleopatra's need to offer up a top-notch dramatic performance. I thought that a perfect theme song for Laertes would be Faith by George Michael. The song talks about being strong and not choosing someone out of necessity or physical appearance alone. The lyrics, "Before this river becomes an ocean, before I throw my heart back on the floor. Oh baby I reconsider my foolish notion, Well I need someone to hold me but I'll wait for something more" clearly fit Laertes morals. He murders the original King Hamlet and gets away with it without anyone knowing it was him until Hamlet is able to piece the puzzle together himself. In my opinion I believe this manipulative behavior is described by The Rolling Stones Sympathy for the 🤬, as it too depicts acts done by the 🤬 throughout history. That were done by him working with humanity, the song also never blatantly states that the 🤬 is the one responsible for these heinous acts but constantly implies and shows hints that it was him all along. Similar to that of Claudius's act of 🤬 constantly being implied it was him even though it is never directly stated to Hamlet or the reader.

In Othello, Iago is considered the main villian. He becomes notorious for understanding and manipulating the people around him in order to become more powerful. He would watch and observe the characters, and strategically scheme them against each other. The song's main verse is well known, "Every breath you take
Every move you make.
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you.
Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you.
Oh can't you see
You belong to me." Although this may seem like a love song, it was orginally written after the writer had went through a divorce. It showed his need for control and surveillance, much like Iago needs. This exemplifies Iago's need to know everything about everyone for his master plan.

He is purely evil, and his motivations are muddled—all that is known is that he possesses a deep hatred for Othello and wants to cause his demise. I think that the song “Smooth Criminal” by Michael Jackson perfectly represents Iago. In the song, a mysterious criminal attacks a woman in her own apartment. Little is known about the assailant’s motivations for his ruthless actions. Jackson sings that “He came into her apartment” and “He left the bloodstains on the carpet,” but, much like Iago, we never learn what causes him to do this. Both men have villainous intentions; Iago spends the entirety of the play manipulating Roderigo, Othello, and other characters to accomplish his malicious goal.

When he asks his daughters who loves him most, Goneril and Regan plead there case of love for their father with a sneaky manner and King Lear, "blinded by their love" falls to their plead of love. In the song Blinded by the Light, it says:

Another runner in the night" This easily refers to King Lear who was easily blinded by the love of his duaghters as they both easily are runners in the night by finnessing their fathers property, money and other riches.

Her theatrical nature propels the plot forward and reveals her dramatic tendencies when approaching situations/conflicts. The song Fabulous reflects Cleopatra's urge to surround herself with the dramatics. The songs repetition of "I need, I need, I need, I need, I need, I need I need fabulous" showcases Cleopatra's luxurious lifestyle in Egypt and her wealth within her kingdom. Cleopatra can appear to be spoiled because she gets everything she wants, much like the singer of the song Sharpay Evens. Her control over her subjects reveals Cleopatra's wants for everything to go her way. Even though she puts on the appearance of a well part together queen, when things do not go her way she becomes angry and violent. The song Fabulous exhibits Cleopatra outward expressions and her attempts to conduct everything in a dramatic fashion, but on a deeper level she struggles with control and seeks to be in control at all times

The song "We Found Love" is a perfect reflection regarding Romeo and Juliet's situation of finding love at the masquerade party. Romeo of the Montagues is in love with Juliet of the Capulets. Romeo attempted to take Juliet's hand in marriage in a hopeless situation due to the conflicts between the houses. The lyric "We found love in a hopeless place" parallels Romeo's dilemma regarding finding true love, but the barriers present between their families are separating them. Tybalt is one example of a barrier present to oppose romeo's goal to marry Juliet. Tybalt killing Mercutio demonstrates that there will always be somebody stopping Romeo's journey to love a Capulet.

First Polonius tells his daughter Ophelia that Hamlet doesn't actually love her and he's just a flirt. Secondly, the song could also apply to his son, Laertes. When he asks Reynaldo to check on him, he tells him that his son may be flirting around. 

The song Womanizer is similar in that Britney is singing about a man that she knows doesn't respect women. She sings "Fakin' like a good one, But I call 'em like I see 'em, I know what you are, what you are baby." With these lines Britney (and Polonius) call out the men trying to fool around.

The second Romeo's eyes laid on Juliet, he proclaimed his passionate love and desire for Juliet, and appeared to forget all about his former feelings for Rosaline. 

This moment is captured by the song, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles, and specifically the lyrics "Oh please, say to me you'll let me be your man and please say to me you'll let me hold your hand I'll let me hold your hand I want to hold your hand". This lyric is seen similar to the adressed moment from Romeo and Juliet, as Romeo's proclamation for love comes at first sight, and he appears to have no control over his newfound desire for Juliet, seen through his forgetting of Rosaline, and in the Beatles song, the lyric "I'll let me hold your hand".

The soothsayer brings out the best and worst in all characters, exposes their flaws and secrets, and subtly directs their actions and inner thoughts. This mysteriously deceptive persona that the soothsayer adopts is very characteristic of the song “It Will Come Back” by Hozier. The song is a mellow, relaxed song that uses particular bass and guitar riffs to put the listener on edge, just as the soothsayer does. Furthermore, “It Will Come Back” makes many references to both elements of nature as well as suppressed knowledge. In particular, the lyric “Leave it to the land, this is what it knows” is very reflective of the soothsayer’s power in the play. In scene 2 of Act 1, Soothsayer comments that “In nature’s infinite book of secrecy A little I can read.” His implication that his foresight is derived from the environment around them parallels directly to Hozier’s song in that both individuals invest their concept of power into the earth.

 Additionally, both Soothsayer and “It will Come Back” have the unforgivable attitude that what you get is what you get. Soothsayer saying, “Your fortunes are alike,” being responded to with “But how, but how? Give me particulars” and finishing the conversation with “I have said” is almost stubborn in a way; they give off the ominous feeling that you only have one chance to truly understand or know what the future holds. In life, this idea is all about the differences in choices that are made day to day. Likewise, in his song Hozier writes “Don’t feed me, I will come back, can’t be unlearned” as if he is singing as fate itself. While Hozier does not carry the same idea of ‘you only get one chance,’ his phrase is still threatening and reminds the listener that they can’t escape the truth of what to come. Both Soothsayer and Hozier are unapologetic in what they say and how they present themselves. Their truths cannot be avoided, whether or not others want to hear what they have to say.

Throughout the piece, Iago has a built-up hatred for Othello, which reminds me of the song "Gives You 🤬" by the All-American Rejects. This song expresses the writer's hatred towards someone else, such as his ex-girlfriend. In the song it says, "You can't look me in the eyes with that sad, sad, look that you wear so well." Although Othello believes Iago is trying to help him, Iago purposely antagonizes Othello in a vengeful manner, which reveals that he enjoys how Othello is bothered. The songs repeats the lines "Truth be told I miss you, and truth be told I'm lying." This illustrates the idea that the writer once respected this person, but after a certain event, his views have changed, along with his intentions. Similarly, Iago turns on the man that was once his leader and causes him to be speculative of the woman he was once in love with.

Lear has three daughters, Regan, Goneril and his favorite Cordelia. Shakespeare describes Regan and Goneril as evil, corrupt women, whereas Cordelia is beautiful and honest. Since she is so honest, she refuses to participate in her father's game, which requires each daughter to describe how much they love him. Regan and Goneril describe their father with an endless amount of adjectives, whereas Cordelia states she has no words to describe her love for her father. This enrages him and he banishes her from the kingdom. Throughout the beginning of the tragedy, this portion of the text reminded me of the song "Transform" by Daniel Caesar. In the song, he says "I know that you feel mad today, that anger will fade away, and you'll wish she was here" This line in particular, is similar to how Lear felt when he realized he had made a bad decision by sending Cordelia away, and describes the anger and rage he had felt when he first banished her versus the regret that he felt as soon as his anger had disappeared. Additionally, the title of the song "Transform" describes the turn in feelings that the King had experienced when he realized that the other two daughters had deceived him for power.

In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare addresses a character called Mercutio which is essential in driving the action forward in play. He foreshadows devastating events and gives the audience the important information throughout the play. Mercutio is Romeo's best friend. He is a scene stealer and one of the most memorable characters in all of Shakespeare’s works. With his wild words, Mercutio punctures the romantic sentiments and blind self-love that exist within the play. He mocks Romeo’s self-indulgence just as he ridicules Tybalt’s hauteur and adherence to fashion. Romeo's  brand new marriage gets complicated because of the feud, or long-standing fight, between the Capulets and Montagues. He tries to keep peace because Tybalt, a Capulet, is now related to him by marriage, but he feels a strong sense of revenge after Tybalt kills Mercutio. Tybalt, still looking to punish Romeo for his appearance at the Capulets' party, runs into Mercutio and Benvolio. He provokes Mercutio into a duel, while Benvolio tries to stop the fighting. ... A grieving Romeo fights Tybalt and kills him.  The critic Stephen Greenblatt describes Mercutio as a force within the play that functions to deflate the possibility of romantic love and the power of tragic fate. Unlike the other characters who blame their deaths on fate, Mercutio dies cursing all Montagues and Capulets. Mercutio believes that specific people are responsible for his death rather than some external impersonal force. "I Grieve" by Peter Gabriel is the song that perfectly captures the shocked emotional state for Romeo because Mercutio died when Romeo was trying to end the fight and save Mercutio. The lyrics in the song that best relate to the shock of death are:

He sees what he wants, be it the crown or the queen to go along with it, and he just goes after it. He is confident in himself and his idea that he deserves the world and everything in it. This mindset immediately brought me to the popular new song by Ariana Grande, "7 Rings". This is a song where Ariana repeatedly says the lyric "I see it, I want it, I got it." She is referring to her wealth and that there is no budget for her because she gets what she wants no matter what. I believe that this is very in line with how Claudius views himself. He allows himself to be not bothered by restrictions that others may wish to place on him, like people believing that his new marriage is incestuous, and just powers on and does what he wants. He is channeling his inner Ariana.

The death of her son causes the audience to feel sympathy for her, until she plots the vicious rape of Titus’ only daughter.  She accomplishes revenge through her femininity and ability to manipulate those around her.  The song “Hit em’ up style (oops),” by Blu Cantrell, tells a story of a woman slighted by her significant other and how she gets revenge by spending his all his money for her inner turmoil caused by the failure of their relationship.  While Cantrell’s attitude might not be as vicious as the Roman Empress’, the song reflects Tamora’s need for revenge perfectly.  Regardless of whether or not audiences feel sorry for Tamora when Bassianus and Lavinia confront her in the woods with racially charged accusations, the empress loses our sympathy when she encourages her sons to rape Lavinia while she runs off to continue her affair with Aaron.
