Bob Marley fought for the apartheid in South Africa. He also showed this in one of his songs : War. The song is about discrimination and racism. He wants to fight for their rights but doesn't want a real war so he puts it in his song.

Rastafarian culture

The Rastafarian culture was/is frowned upon by many people because of the smoking of marijuana. Also were they discriminated because of this. Bob Marley wanted to stop this and bring an end to discrimination.

Reggae

Reggae is a type of music that originates in Jamaica, more specifically from the Rastafari belief. Bob Marley got the title 'The King of Reggae'. Using his music, he brought attention to the problems his culture had and wanted to end the apartheid in South Africa.

Obstacles

In his career, he was confronted with segregation and prejudice. In 1977, he was diagnosed with cancer, but he never stopped fighting for what he believed. He was also almost murdered by a political group in Jamaica : JLP. This happened because he did a concert in Jamaica called 'Smile Jamaica' which was later labeled as a collaboration between Bob Marley and The Wailers and PNP's cultural office. He was saved by his manager Don Taylor and the bullet only hit his arm. He later moved to England because he was scared and there inspired the black community of England.

Bob Marley sent out lots op peace messaged from within Jamaica. He also held a lot of peace concerts.

Life

As kid he barely saw his father, who died when he was ten. At the age of ten, while still going to school, he sometimes earned some money by singing in the streets. He made his guitar from waste wood.

Fight

He fought against racism and discrimination to the black people. He wanted his community to be accepted. The Rastafarian culture too. His songs were his weapons and an inspiration to the whole black community.

Children

Bob Marley had eleven children. Three with his wife Rita, one adopted daughter from a previous relationship of Rita and the rest with different women. In 1972 he even had three children in one month (from different women): Stephen (April 20), Robert (May 16) and Rohan (May 19). Several of Marley's children also became reggae singers.
