All in all, I really enjoyed the Podcast, and I gained a lot of information that I will definitely pass on. The first thing that stood out to me was the music, which was probably intended that way. I liked the choice of music in general, especially the first song. It in a way almost eased into the subject, which in itself is not a light topic. There are only two things that I found could have been better, but the show was nonetheless a good one. Firstly, the moderator of sounded more bored than concerned (which is what I think was probably intended?). The other thing is, that the interviews could have been cut in order to hear less mhms and ahhs. What I really loved was the bottle opener sound effect, to introduce a new side of the topic. In my very humble opinion, I also really liked the experts you have introduced in the show. They knew what they were talking about and each of them had their own kind of expertise, and it was generally just well rounded. I would love to hear more on the topic, if you ever feel like making a part two, where you would dive into the political and socio-political context. Maybe also alcoholism in the different generations or possibly only the millennial and gen z since they are most affected by the political situation nowadays.

The content of the show would be everything punk related but mostly focused on politics. It would talk about the history of punk. The inclusiveness or lack thereof. Recent world events and humanitarian crisis. Punk shows in Salzburg. New bands or old ones and their music or philosophy. Books about punk, anarchism, antifa and more. Alternative sub-cultures of the left such as goth, metal, emo, and their presence in pop culture, but also newly sprouting sub-cultures such as e-girls/boys. Maybe even some pop culture analysis, about stereotypes and bad/good role models and scandals or problematic events. Also, the pros and cons of the internet, because it has influenced everything including the alternative scene. Places or organisations that need help or donations. The format would range from expert interviews to just the moderator talking and lastly even a bit of a talk show format. The experts would be authors, philosophers, social justice advocated, etc, whereas the talk show format would be just the everyday heroes or band interviews. The more factual related topics such as history would be a one-person-show. It should be broadcast every two weeks, which is frequent enough to talk about recent news but not too frequent in order to properly conceptualise and produce the show.

]]> 2022-07-06 11:55:17 UTC https://padlet.com/s1076898/sjnq364fnshpd38b/wish/2238056819 Commentary s1076898 https://padlet.com/s1076898/sjnq364fnshpd38b/wish/2241075544 I chose the first broadcasting scene in “Good Morning, Vietnam”, a film starring Robin Williams, that I have not yet seen, but am now intrigued to watch. The scene starts with the switch from the green light to the red one communicating that the host is on air is like a fairy tale Once-upon-a-time but for radio shows. Robin Williams portrayed his role as a radio host very well in my humble opinion. I do not know whether it is just a very well written screenplay or the charm of the actor, but its enthusiastic mood is contagious. Even for someone who has only heard from the Vietnam War in history books, I believe the over-the-top ardour was necessary in such grim times. I understand a few of the pop cultural references made during the scene, such as the one with Elvis Presley or Peggy Lee. People who grew up around those times, however, might find more joy in these jokes and maybe even some nostalgia. Moreover, I realise that radio must have been one of the most important media during this time in this place for keeping morale up in the troops. Most unrealistic about the scene is that the radio host is seemingly pulling the show out of thin air, babbling on about music and making jokes, especially the part where he suddenly mimics the whole Wizard of Oz and puts the military jargon all in the right places. I can also imagine the tensions during these times would not have allowed for such a easy-breezy comical interlude on a nation-wide radio without consequences.

Basically, what is portrayed are the initials of the Night Vale Community Radio. Inside the initials there are various things presenting the radio and Nightvale. For example, the night sky against a mountain backdrop, because obviously there is the name itself. Next, there is the V with the smiling god inside because the smiling god controlled everything at some point in the lore. Then the eye, that is already their logo in the c because the eye can “c” everything. And lastly. In the R very hard to see is the mighty glow cloud for obvious reasons.

The rat ASMR is of my pet rats. Night Vale is my absolutely favourite CR (if this actually counts). The Punk show and Alcoholism are two rather political topics, that I am personally invested in. And lastly, I really really like Robin Williams and although I have not seen the movie yet, after attending this course and writing the commentary about it I will watch it and have more insight than I would have had before. Generally, I truthfully enjoyed this course, and I am more than hurt that I couldn’t contribute to our show more. But nonetheless this was an experience that gave me insights into the inner workings of Community and Pirate radio and I am more than grateful for this, since I have always enjoyed listening to Radio shows and podcasts.
