International Students from 'racialised minority' groups in the UK context

My questions were around how each department and the Uni overall prepares and protects International students from a racialised minority background. This is often an issue and the Social Work team work hard in this area but there are still issues within our sector which as you will know, should be upholding and working from a strong value base of anti-discriminatory practice. My guess is that not all work places are coming from that kind of awareness and commitment and so if we find problems I wonder what it must be like in other areas and how we are managing this uni wide; how we might share good practice and work in a way that strengthens the NTU offer for international students. I am also interested in how international students (again with a focus on those from racialised minority backgrounds) are supported to orientate themselves to life in the UK, the practice/work environment here and develop awareness of the racism they are highly likely to face; ways to deal with this and how and where to access support from the Uni. My Q then is how equipped are staff to deal with this too. I know from experience that if we as staff don't initiate these conversations it is incredibly hard for students to open these conversations.

I think the issue of intersectionality for these students who may have disabilities and neuro-diversity are especially hidden and complex. they may not come with access statements etc etc
