This is still one of my all-time favorite books. My mom would read it to me probably once a week because I loved it so much. I remember I thought the tree was so nice and thoughtful. Now that I am older, I see how sad this book is but still so powerful.

Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/Giving-Tree-Shel-Silverstein/dp/0060256656/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1547327370&sr=1-1&keywords=the+giving+tree

Fun Activity: Have students make their own "Giving Tree" and have them write things they can give for free on the leaves.

CCSS:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.K.10
Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.7
Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
