The Norrie disease is a genetic disease that affects a person's eye and can lead to blindness in male infants at birth or possibly soon after birth. It causes abnormal development of the retina. The retina is the layer of sensory cells that detect color and light, with masses of immature cells that are retinal accumulating at the back of a person's eye. The pupils of the eye later begin to turn white when light is shone on it. This is called leukocaria. The Norrie Disease is a rare disease that can cause deafness as well. Since this genetic disease is rare, it really does not affect a lot of people. Also, this disease usually affects males a lot more than females. Males are affected by loss of vision present at birth or after and females are never really affected by this that often.
- Mariah White, Shaelin Carpenter and Jason Bishop.
