  • What suppressed wants, needs, and even memories force their way through symbolically in hallucinations for Lady Macbeth? 
    1.  Lady Macbeth's longing for a child has been mentioned several times, once she became queen, she hoped Macbeth and her would have a happy family. But as they killed more and more, grief and guilty blood cover those happy fantasies.  She has lost contact with her loving mother side and is now reliant on getting out of the the hole she is in.  
  • What unconscious desires come through Lady Macbeth's behavior? 
    • When she has nightmares and the doctor sees her wiping something off of her hands, she screams it won't come off! She wants the guilt to be gone but it's a mental block that will stay and plague her. After she hid her feelings for so long her only way to express herself truthfully, is through nightmares.

When we are asleep, our defenses are down and we can't control anything we do, which makes us very honest and expressive of our deeper thoughts and feelings. We should definitely still use it as it allows a deeper understanding of our characters which could even lead to a better understanding of ourselves. If we only analyzed how Lady Macbeth acts, then we would only be seeing her proper side who tries to keep everything together.     • Macbeth is the speaker and he is speaking to himself.

    • Right after Macbeth kills Duncan, he starts hearing voices. These voices are telling him that he's a murder and will always have guilt in his mind.  

    • Macbeth is trying to suppress the feelings of guilt after her murderers his king for truly no good reason. But his unconscious mind is racked with guilt and makes him hear his inner thoughts that he is trying to suppress.

She is a two face that bottles up her emotions to leave her in a state of neither awake nor asleep. She has put on a confident face for too long, at this point she can no longer grasp her true emotions until she has nightmares and sleep walks.
