Work in pairs to make a Padlet post about a dinosaur that calls your attention or that you hadn’t heard of before. Find an image, describe its size, diet, habitat, when it lived, and other characteristics. Use the reading on pp. 94-95 as inspiration. Time: 20min.

As far as scientists know, pterodactyls were the largest flying animals that ever lived. Some pterodactyls measured more than 36 feet (11 meters) across with the wings spread out. But the smallest pterodactyls were as small as a sparrow. A pterodactyl's back legs were long and thin, like those of birds.

Pterodatylus was a kind of Pterosaur.
Pterosaurs are flying reptiles; Pterodactyls weren't a dinosaur. They lived during the late Jurassic Period and were a relatively small pterosaur with a wingspan of just over 1 meter.

More characteristics:
-Carnivore and their diet was based mainly on fish.
-They had quite long wings that allowed them to fly without spending energy.
-They had a crest on their skull.

Did pterodactyls have feathers?
Contrary to what many people think, pterodactyls didn't have feathers. These aren't the direct ancestors of birds, but other smaller species that also lived in the Jurassic and Cretaceous and did have feathers. Pterodactyls are just reptiles that could fly.
