This a picture that student drew of me on my first day on the job as a teacher. My hair is a little shorter now, and i've gained some weight since then. I have taught in the general and special education setting. Currently I am a 3-4 resource teacher and I co-teach 3rd and 4th grade ELA. This is my final semester at Dominican University. I completed my ESL endorsement coursework last spring and am now in the process of completing courses to obtain my masters degree. As a teacher I hope I try to be honest. I don't like when people are condescending to kids, even the very young ones. I like reading, right now I'm reading Jonathon Edwards Religious Affections and the most recent issue of The Kenyon Review. I like playing music with friends, chainsawing things, and watching St. Louis Blues hockey games. Most of all I like being my kids and wife. I had no intention of being a teacher or even going to college for that matter, so I am still surprised each day when I unlock the door to my classroom. Most of the time in school I was sent to the hallway for being an a dumby in class. Out in the hall I read the books and taught myself most of what learned in school. I have always been a reader and as such have learned most of what I know by reading. When I am interested in something I will hyper-focus (a symptom of my ADHD) and read and consume every bit of knowledge I can about that topic.
