Australia is not a third world country therefore it has better access to medical facilities, infrastructure and education, in comparison to country say for example Libya. Australia spends a higher amount of money on health per capita spending 4,357$ in comparison to Libya spending 806$. However Australia is an unhealthy country in terms of obesity rates due to the fact we are not a third world country. 63% of Adult Australians are overweight because we have easy access to fast food restaurants and the prices of health foods are so high in comparison to unhealthy foods, so it is easier to buy unhealthy foods.

Australians are living longer but with more chronic illnesses according to Australia's Health 2016 report card. Australia has sustainable medical services in both rural and urban parts of Australia. People born between 2012 and 2014 can live up to the age of 80.3 (boy) and 84.4 (girl). On the other hand Australia's health relating to income, family and the area of where a person is living is very different to the medical side.

Although Australia has one of the world's highest life expectancy rates. I don't think Australia is necessarily a healthy nation because of it's various unhealthy eating habits as well as lifestyle choices. Out of the total Australian population, 63% of adults and 25% of children are clinically overweight or obese, which relates and shows that many of us are living with a chronic disease. This could be due to the common lifestyles or risk factors that take place in Australia such as smoking, physical inactivity, drug use, poor nutrition, and underage or harmful drinking.

Dying at young ages is an indication of poor health or poor personal care. Cancer, coronary heart disease and diabetes are the biggest causes of death and ill health.

Australia is a healthy country in that we have a high life expectancy, falling death rates and good medical services etc to assist nearby. At the same time Australia has various bad health habits which make it unhealthy, such as, the alcohol problem. Another problem is the poor food choices we make daily, with 'fast food' being supposedly more affordable than 'healthy food'. Most Australians also lack a balanced diet, indulging in mostly dairy and carbs increasing the obesity rate. The leading cause of death in Australia is Coronary Heart Disease (caused by build up of plaque in arteries - build up is caused by overeating of fats and cholesterol).

Although Australia as a country is one of the leading nations of the world in terms of medical discoveries and science, our everyday physical health is making these discoveries so much more urgently needed. Although rates of clinical diseases such as cancer, heart disease and cardiovascular illnesses have dropped, Australians' lifestyle choices have led to a steep increase in diseases caused by diet and exercise deficiencies, like diabetes and obesity. Mentally, Australia is one of the most anxious countries in the world. Conservative attitudes towards mental health funding has led to Australia losing 2,866 people in 2016, and possibly more in 2017. Australia's prevalent drug and alcohol industry has only fuelled our rising mental illnesses. Our remote areas and regions commonly do not have access to facilities that may help improve their health as a whole, whether that be a doctor's office, a local counsellor, or even a church and chapel where they can practice their spiritual interests. Australia as a whole is not a healthy country.
