<title>1. International mindedness is being aware of other cultures, customs, beliefs and values. It is the ability to be better prepared for the global challenges experienced in this 21st century. It is being able to appreciate oneself as a global citizen, understanding and respecting other perspectives, cultures and languages.</title>

<title>2. A global citizen is someone who accepts being part of a changing global community and whose actions contribute to building the global community&#39;s values and practices. A good global citizen is flexible and proactive. </title>

<title>3. How schools today prepare students for global citizenship within biology and other group 4 subjects: By encouraging the students to read widely and presenting them with opportunities to do that. This can be done through giving them research projects involving a wide range of subjects such as pollution, environmental issues etc. Developing technology skills - get students to use software for analysing data as they do their lab reports or inernal assessments. Also encourage them to always have an application in today&#39;s world for any investigation they undertake in science. This helps them to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.</title>

<title>4. I am lucky to have in my classrooms, a mixture of students from different nationalities and cultures. It has always been a worthwhile learning experience to have a point of comparison between two or more different cultures. I have found that this opens students&#39; way of thinking and they get to appreciate that as global citizens they don&#39;t always have to do things the same way. As practice, i always ask students to point out how an issue of biological interest would be handled in different cultures. These are random issues that come up in the course of a topic. They could be related to the topic, or from a different topic but within biology</title>

<title>5. How i can help students understand the importance of international understanding as it relates to biology: Science is the same globally. The biological concepts are the same and so the knowledge is the same. However the application of skills may differ with cultures. For example on matters of health, biology of disease, transmission and prevention is the same. But the different cultures may have divergent views regarding prevention, and students should understand this. Another example is environmental care and prevention where there are different values attached to the environment. So i do as a teacher ask the students to think about how different communities would go about tackling some specific biological issues. Then i would later add that it is part of international mindedness and being global citizens that we are able to adapt to different ways of doing things.</title>

<title>6. Activities that i have carried out in my class that have highlighted or celebrated international mindedness: Giving examples from different countries and introducing global content into a lesson. Having students do research on different topics then do presentations on their findings. Examples of research topics like stem cell and the work of teams of different scientists. Stem cell therapy is influenced by cultural and religious traditions. Sharing with students IA&#39;s done by students from other schools so that they could have an idea of how a biological issue from another part of the world could apply locally.</title>
