The relationship element is the next pillar, which is what separates a member of a person’s community from a stranger. A sense of belonging is the natural urge to be a part of something, while shared identity is the sense of singularity when an individual can identify as a group. (Carrido 4)

The Internet didn’t change what makes a community, it only offered the accessibility some people might have struggled with in finding the communities they needed. Companies, brands, and people are the ones that dictate the rules of functionality though, as society continues to evolve with the access it has to one another. The preference ultimately comes down to the individual. The accessibility and ease of an online community, with relaxed social expectations, sounds great to me, but nothing will ever beat face-to-face interactions. (Carrido 9)

Ultimately, whether it’s a neighbourhood potluck or a global Discord server, the key ingredients are the same: mutual respect, clear guidelines, consistent engagement, and a sense of shared purpose. By leveraging the strengths of both offline and online worlds, you’ll create a thriving, resilient community that stands the test of time. (Hiew 28)

The same can be said for online communities…sort of. On one hand, you can argue–and/or just plain find–online communities where the ability to participate anonymously makes for an environment where people, able to hide behind screen names, are venomous and cruel. Look at Yik Yak, for example–an anonymous social networking app favored by teens. It’s made headlines ever since it launched because of the flat-out bullying and harassment it enables just by virtue of its anonymity. It even played a pivotal role in a murder at my alma mater, University of Mary Washington.

Actual community engagement refers to real-life interactions and involvement within a community, such as participating in local events, volunteering, attending meetings, and collaborating with others to address community issues. It involves face-to-face interactions and tangible contributions to the community’s well-being (Bradford 2)

This will help in the brainstorm because I want perspectives for all kinds of people I with this I'm thinking I could have a paragraph of showing how both are good depending on the person.

Both of these quotes are showing how being online can be bad because they have the ability to be anonymous which they can use to bully others without recieving really any punishment. It expanded my ideas by showing that anonymous aren't just beneficial for shy people but it could be harmful for people who don't want to be caught. This helps start off with showing the cons of online communities.
