Friendships needs time to get stronger, but also to heal from it. You make each other grow up by spending time with and sharing experiences. However, time is needed to create a good and solid friendship. Also, not all the friendships are there to last. Most of them are ephemeral, but they were part of your life. And, they impacted you.

To grow up and be a better person, communication is important key. Reaching for help, it is an act of trust (toward the person asked) and self-care because you take conscience that you cannot do it by yourself. Also, today the communication is the easiest thing ever because of phones. It is also the last thing that Cassie did before to die: call Lia.

Lia is the protagonist, the main character. Lia is very pale and skinny. She dresses with loose clothes to hide her body. She is anorexic and she lost her best friend named Cassie. She is a teenager girl. Her parents divorced. She lives with her dad, step-sister and step-mom. She had a complicated relation with her mom because she is a doctor. Lia is dynamic character because she changes throughout the story. She will not be afraid to eat. Lia has a complex personality and she is reliable.
Lia is someone who is very irritable because she doesn't eat enough and she is tired mentally speaking. “I am not a lab rat” can reflect how she is tired because she refused to be her mom's experience (Anderson,71). She wants a mom, not a doctor. So her speech at the beginning of the story is very dry, aggressive and violent. But along the story is will be warmer, happier. It works too for her thoughts. She will gain hope during the story because she understood that "food is life" (Anderson, 275). Lia had a bad impact on others. She took part on Cassie's disorder. She traumatized her step-sister that loves her. Her parents divorced and fought because of Lia. Her effects on others are connected to her actions because she "pretend to be a fat, healthy teenager. They pretend to be [her] parents. Everything is just fine” (Anderson,51). She is just lying to everyone and it affects others. She impacted everybody in the story, mainly negatively.

Lia's mom is a doctor. She is a dynamic character because at the end Lia and her will reconcile. She is flat because she is the doctor mom that is trying to save her child. She is struggling with Lia because she refused to eat. Her mom use to act as a doctor with Lia. "You look terrible. How much do you weigh?" is direct and dry. Her mom talks like a doctor. Her mom is worried about Lia but she does it in a bad way. The effect that she had on the story is complication of the conflict. She influenced Lia's mental health and her familial situation because her mom and her dad divorced. She forced Lia eating and she traumatized Lia in her special recovery. She is trying to help her but everytime she does it wrong because Lia doesn't want help. She is a mom who is tired and very strict an monotone because she is a doctor. The impact on the story is mainly negative because she cause traumas to Lia. She tried and save herlife. She impacted Lia's life because she is her mom.

Cassie/ Best Friend

Cassie is the antagonist in the story. She stayed the same throughout the story, so she is static. In the book, Cassie died alone in a motel room. The news said it was an overdose from drugs, but in reality she died because of body gave up. Cassie is bulimic (they eat eat a lot and then they will purge it. Bulimics do that to eliminate the amount of food ingest because they are scared to win weight). Cassie and Lia were best friends. They were obsessed about their weight; they were competing together. The winner will be the skinniest girl in the school. Cassie and Lia helped each other to lose weight they were best friend, helping each other to die. They stopped being friends before Cassie's death. So when Cassie died , she become a "ghost" in Lia's mind. Lia was haunted by Cassie. I think that Cassie is how Lia see her disorder. Cassie is an anti-hero type because she was a bad friend and haunted Lia after she died. Cassie is pretty flat. She is the toxic friend. Cassie's ghost said "friends tells friends the truth" to Lia maker her guilty (Anderon,244). During all the story Cassie tried to push Lia down. The character doesn't think because Cassie is in Lia mind. Cassie made Lia relapse and made her sad, angry and scared. Cassie didn't have real action because she is a hallucination. She is a thought. Cassie was a ghost. She was translucide and skinny. Cassie impacted Lia's mental health because she was bullying Lia. Also, she impacted her family and the mood of the book. A tennager died, it is tragic and violent. She was tragic and violent.

The conflict in Wintergirls is how Lia is dealing with her life. She is living a grief of her best friend. And she is mentally ill. She is sick physically too because she is very underweight. She is haunted by her best friend: Cassie. The conflict is resolved because Lia decided to recover. She was dying and she realized that Cassie was toxic and it is not her fault. She will start to be healthier and happier after Cassie's grief. So the main conflict is about anorexia and it is resolved by recovery.

Friends are there to create a safe place for you. In which, you can rely on, laugh with, and trust on. Lia and Cassie were toxic but, they were friends and they understood each other. They tried to be help each other, but it ended up badly. Elijah and Cassie were friends too after all because she trusted him and they shared moments together. Friendships make you share experiences and learn things about your taste and personality.

This song talks about toxic relationships. It can be the image of Lia's and Cassie's relationships because each other are too scared to walk out because they understand each other.
"[she] get[s] tired and [she] get[s] sick and then [she] lose[s] the strength to leave" can be the example of the situation (Roar). She can relate to it because she is pretty sad and the melody is dramatique. "I can't help but repeat myself" can totally be Lia's thoughts that is why I choose this song. It connects with the theme because it is about relationships. And how it impacts mental health. The theme is that relationships impact your life and they will make you grow. This relation with the song and the theme, the person is waiting a change to move on, to grow up.
