Other people can wear other colors of scarves, just not white or blue. Many accounts were made that those who wore blue and white scarves were killed every day on the streets.

They were starved, tortured to reveal other people in hiding, and beaten to death.

Pol Pot had people running the infamous camps such as Tuol Sleng who then had hundreds of thousands of people who died from  disease, starvation or exhaustion as members of the Khmer Rouge - often just teenagers themselves - forced people to do back-breaking work. Over 17,000 people were killed just in S-21 also known as Tuol Sleng.

The US was trying not to acknowledge the genocide because they had just lost the Vietnam war and didn’t want to get involved in that region again. It wasn’t until the Khmer Rouge was overthrown till the genocide was on international news but even then, there was no international investigation that was done.

The Cambodian genocide occurred in Cambodia, a small country in southeast Asia. Before the genocide happened, Cambodia had a population of 7 million people. Most of them were Buddhists. Cambodia is also surrounded by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. There were only 1.7 million people left after the genocide.

Why
Pol Pot wanted an agrarian utopia. He decided to wipe out the really smart people who posed as a threat because he wanted everyone to be equal. That way he could be the only one in power.
