Have the advanced reading students work on the same topic of discussion as the rest of the class, but have them dive deeper into this! One specific way you can group your students is by cluster grouping. Cluster grouping is grouping based upon ability. You do not want students to only ever be working with peers that are at their level, but for some parts of the school day group students based upon their ability. This allows our gifted readers to be challenged together without taking away from other students in the class. The rest of the students are still allowed to be working at their level and their own pace. However, at the same time you can allow your advanced readers to continue being challenged. Interest is the key in fostering the ability in certain advanced areas. If students are interested, then they are more likely to have a commitment in completing the task they are doing. For the multiple advanced students in the class allow them to work together to create on thing. Their exact giftedness is different than each other, so together they can create great outcomes by doing different things within one project. This should be an occasional thing, as you want your advanced readers to continue advancing themselves, however allowing them to assist their classmates can give the advanced student a sense of pride and accomplishment.
