Much like how the colonists in Jamestown lived right next to a river, but even then there were many setbacks. The toxic soil from Mars could get into the water and create much death. 
If growing food on Mars proves unstable and won’t work, then we can’t rely on ships constantly supplying the colony with food. Even when the colonists got resupplies, it wasn’t nearly enough and barely got a few of them to survive.
There is no rainfall on Mars. The closest thing to it is probably toxic radiation, if I’m being honest. It would end up being much worse than the Jamestown drought.
The winters would be detrimental to the health of humans, even with the proper technology, it’s freezing on Mars. Humans weren’t meant to live on a planet other than Earth. There are so many things that could go wrong with the food supply, weather,  and environmental affairs.

The temperature on Mars is not good for humans since it can become really cold which can cause hypothermia in humans. The atmosphere on Mars is 100 times thinner than on Earth and the amount of air that does exist on Mars is primarily composed of carbon dioxide which does little to protect the surface from the Sun’s harmful rays. On Mars, the radiation is also a barrier when it comes to colonization because it doesn’t block as much radiation as Earth which is harmful. Motivation is also a contributing factor to preventing Mars colonization because people may not find living on Mars very appealing since it would be a step down compared to Earth. This would affect the total number of people colonizing Mars and will not motivate people to keep working on making Mars habitable.

It will be really dangerous to survive up there. I don't think we have the technology to travel that far with a spaceship. Well although it can give us many benefits going to mars we still don't know how it is on mars and the weather. I personally think NASA should take a cow or animal to mars and put a camera around its neck to record all the events. Many people think it's easy to go to mars but it is extremely hard to send a human up to space because its so big.

The actual value had much more meaning behind it, which is shown in the quote. It’s amazing how great of a value colonizing America held to society as a whole and how much it changed the world. I do not think we should colonize Mars, this is because that the environment is unsafe with the conditions on this planet. The temperature on mars is not good for humans, Earth's temperature is suitable for humans and mars would not be. Sometimes it can get really cold at Mars. This will most likely cost many lives as seen when Jamestown was attempted to be established. There may have been some sources of water found on Mars but that won't be enough for a living and growing population. Concerns about polluted water are also to be kept in mind when it comes to colonizing a new area. Not only are resources a major concern, moving to another planet to establish new life would be extremely more complicated than just moving to somewhere around Earth. Relying on the spaceships to bring food to Mars won't work because of how long the trip is to get to Mars. Two of the reasons that most new life establishments fail is because of disease and famine (lack of food). If growing crops on Mars is unsuccessful, then we basically don't have any hope for Mars colonization. Temperatures and atmospheres are also completely different which adds another problems we need to worry about.
