Story- During his third tour in Iraq, Chuck was on a mission to escort a supply convoy to a remote outpost that they had in Sadr City. His convoy and the supply truck in front of him got hit. He got out to check the truck in front of him to make sure it was okay, and that is when they ambushed him. The headache did not really start until he got in his truck a few hours later to head back to his base. He started to get blurry eyes and the dizziness came about so they decided to send him to The Combat Hospital in a helicopter.

Brain Injury

Chuck's brain Injury did not come as a surprise to him. He had been hit directly in a vehicle about 16 times, and each one of those times he had hit his head or had concussion-like symptoms. Chuck believed that because he was a Sargent he had to fight through the pain.

His Neurologist explained that his brain was bruised and that is what was causing his memory loss/lack of concentration. He says that he has ringing in his ears, daily headaches, migraines once or twice a week,and light sensitivity. The thing that affects his life the most is the memory loss because it directly affects his relationship with his wife.

-His wife will talk to him and he has no reaction because he can not understand a word she is saying

-He is very forgetful and he and his wife must write down everything he says in order for him to remember

-He had to go through occupational therapy for the blurriness and loss of peripheral vision/double vision

-He does physical theraphy because he has balance problems

-He does each type of therapy 2-3 times a week for an hour each -REG

Chuck goes to speech theraphy in order to strengthen his memory and concentration skills

When he did testing he was in the 1 percentile for memory- meaning he can not remember a thing

Traumatic brain injury, also known as TBI or intracranial injury, is generally the result of a sudden, violent blow or jolt to the head. The brain is launched into a collision course with the inside of the skull, resulting in possible bruising of the brain, tearing of nerve fibers and bleeding. -EPB
