We all came to a conclusion that this poem is about Death as the poem talks about the grief of his friends. The poem also mentioned if they would still live in a “realm of mystery” like the afterlife. The Flowers and songs are a way to remember their experience on earth just like its stated in the poem “when with flowers and songs I remember those princes who went away”

As a group, we came up with an idea about the poem, A Plain Spring Song Flower " by Nazahualcoyotl, which reflects on the transient nature of life and beauty through the metaphor of flowers. The poem is filled with references to sacred yellow flowers and golden flowers. It highlights the fact that these beautiful things are only borrowed from the Life Giver. It highlights that despite their allure, no one can possess them forever, as all beings must depart. The recurring phrase of “Ohuaya ohuaya" evokes a sense of both celebration and wailing, understanding the bittersweet reality of our belief in existence on Earth. In conclusion, the poem suggests finding solace and joy in human connection and beautiful words, even amidst the acknowledgement of suffering and short-lived moments, while also expressing a longing for divine glory.

As a group, we came to the conclusion that the poem conveyed that Nahua people revolved around religion & poetic matters when it came to singing songs and dancing. However, to the Spanish after the conquest, this ritual was interpreted as sadness, a form of coping, or even healing because of the cultural destruction which occurred-and to add on, the metaphors from the song were incomprehensible for the Spanish as well. This confusing interpretation derives as a result from the fallen cities, (the Aztec empire).

Are group discussion was that the poem mainly discussed two feasts known as the farewell to the flower and feast of the flowers. The farewell to the flowers talks about how the flowers wither and they do the feast as a form of sending the flowers off as they wither away. This can be a connected to bidding farewell to people that have passed on. They celebrate the beauty and joy that the flowers bring, and they emphasize the people's love for flowers and how it's a meaningful part of their daily life because of the relationship between them and nature. They celebrated with music and dance which were accompanied by some songs that had a connection to nature and ritual. Farewell to the flower is still done until this day though it has change from adorning every place with numerous flowers to a smaller celebration in some parts of Mexico.

The statement we choose is “many men who did not have the temperament of a warrior found this as a road to personal achievement and success.” We found this interesting because we would have thought that at this period of time men would have to be warriors and if they weren’t they would be looked down upon. Another statement is “ these indecent singers received their primary payment in praise, but were also often rewarded with valuable gifts from the king or nobles for their work.” To add on our group discussed how although these men weren’t warriors they still held a huge role in something that we would consider to be more feminine which is singing and performing. In conclusion the main message is the Nashua world a lot of males become poets and musicians which they held a huge role in their community and culture. They would perform at festivals, holidays and religious ceremonies.

To the Toltec, Singing and dancing was a great part of their education. It was a part where kids learned sacred dances. Through the text we see they dont recongize a city till they have a place to come together as community. ( House of Song ). Not only this, boys and girls, were required to learn religious songs and dances.
