Ellis Island and Angel Island were two important immigration processing centers in the US during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ellis Island, located in New York, processed 17 million European immigrants searching for a better life, while Angel Island, located in San Francisco, processed 50,000 Chinese immigrants seeking refuge. These sites are important because they represent the struggles and hardships faced by immigrants as they left their homes in search of a better future in America. They also highlight the diversity and contributions of immigrants to the development of the United States.

Membership in NAWSA (National American Woman Suffrage Association) grew from 13,150 in 1893 to over 2 million in 1917. In 1873, Susan B. Anthony, a leading suffragist, was arrested for the act of voting, a crime at the time. Despite being convicted and fined, Anthony remained committed to the cause of women's suffrage, continuing to advocate for equal voting rights. Her arrest served to shed light on the injustices faced by women and sparked a greater push for suffrage reform in the United States. Anthony's unwavering dedication to the movement played a crucial role in the growth and success of the suffrage movement over the years.

The Gilded Age is an important era in American history that took place in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was characterized by rapid industrialization, economic growth, and technological advancements, but also rampant corruption and inequality. Boss Tweed's Tammany Hall exemplifies this corruption and serves as a reminder of the dark side of the Gilded Age, where powerful political machines ruled and exploited the working class for their own gain.

The idea of Manifest Destiny was a belief held by Americans throughout the 19th and early 20th century that they had a divine right to expand their territory across the continent. This belief led to the U.S. acquiring land through purchase, war, and the forced removal of Native Americans. It was driven by motivations of economic gain, military strength, and a sense of cultural superiority. Manifest Destiny played a significant role in shaping the expansion of the United States and its role as a world power.

The Mexican-American War began in 1846 as a result of tensions between Mexico and the United States over the annexation of Texas and the disputed territory between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande. Both President Polk and General Mejia believed they were fighting to defend the honor and interests of their respective countries, leading to a declaration of war. The war resulted in significant territorial changes, with Mexico losing almost half of its territory to the United States. The conflict and its outcome had a lasting impact on the relationship between the two countries and the history of North America.

The Spanish-American War was fought between Spain and the United States in 1898.

The USS Maine, a U.S. warship, mysteriously exploded in Havana harbor in Cuba on February 15, 1898. The explosion was believed to have been caused by a mine, although the exact cause is still debated. This event sparked public outrage in the United States and helped propel the country into the Spanish-American War, as many Americans blamed Spain for the incident and called for revenge. The war was significant because it marked the end of Spanish colonial rule in the Americas and the beginning of the United States' emergence as a global military power. The conflict also led to the acquisition of territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines by the United States.
