Trauma can enter a person's life. Burnout trauma, or compassion fatigue, can occur frequently among professionals working with traumatized clients or students. Overload of work, unequal treatment, conflict, and low rewards can cause burnout. I believe counselors in the education system often suffer from burnout trauma. When a person is repeatedly exposed to traumatic events for a long time, trauma becomes chronic. These events must occur many times and can involve prolonged child abuse, prolonged exposure to combat or war, repeated sexual abuse, or repeated exposure to natural disasters. Chronic trauma can make the nervous system freeze and stop the brain from fighting or fleeing, causing learned helplessness. Organizational trauma is a new term for me. I did must research on this term. Organizational trauma is when behavior patterns at work become dysfunctional. Some examples of this type of trauma can include downsizing, suicide, and global disease, such as COVID-19. The type of trauma can be difficult to treat because of the size of the organization. This reference guide to the different types of Mental Health Disorders will be helpful as a treatment client.

Resume

The dreaded resume. How do you make yourself look good on paper, but not too good? The goal and overall purpose of a resume is to introduce your qualifications and skills to employers. It is an informational document that tells your career story, outlining all details in an easily read format. Resumes also hold meaning within themselves. For example, showing a resume to an employer conveys an intent to apply for a position. A great resume:

· Grabs the attention of employers and recruiters

· Sells your strongest skills and accomplishments

· Shows how you are a match for a position or project

· And gets you a job interview

6 Balloons

It is incredibly difficult to love an addict. Not only does their addiction continuously define the dynamic of your relationship, but they are like a drowning man, able to take you down with them as they flail their arms and fight for air. Rarely has a film captured this better than in the movie 6 Balloons. This case study allowed me to see an addict in real-time. As a therapist, I will need to challenge and encourage my clients to take charge of their addictions and seek help to overcome their addictions. I believe that a strong 12-step program can help heal an addiction if a client will do the work of the program.

This text has introduced me to basic psychopharmacology, which is booming in the United States today. This book informed me about different drugs and how they interact with clients, serving as a valuable resource and a warning. My presentation about Gabapentin stretched my knowledge of the chemistry and the complexity of the human brain.

In this paper, we explored integrative counseling options. Integrative counseling has many benefits, but the amount of information a counselor needs to know can be overwhelming. Adopting one theory can help a counselor organize and sort out the information a client gives in a session. A theory is a system of ideas or principles such as the Choice Theory by William Glasser, which will be what I will use in my sessions with my clients. Unfortunately, my writing abilities and use of APA citing are not great. I improved over the year, but it is still a struggle.

The genogram is a visual, symbolic representation of multiple generations of a family, structured in much the same way as a family tree. Genograms emerged within systemic family therapy as an assessment and intervention tool, but in their ability to generate rich data, they are gaining traction as a research method. Although researchers have extensively documented the benefits of genograms in therapeutic practice, there is limited literature exploring their use in research. I am extremely proud of my genogram in this assignment. I believe genograms can be helpful in treating generational trauma and generational substance abuse.

The Texas Jurisprudence Exam for LPC covers a broad range of topics related to the practice of counseling, including client confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical decision-making. It ensures that LPCs in Texas have a solid understanding of the laws and regulations that guide their profession. Making the mistake of blurring client–therapist boundaries can lead to several issues related to trust, as well as a misunderstanding regarding the roles and responsibilities of both parties. For example, pursuing a client relationship outside of therapy is a major boundary violation that diminishes the therapist’s professional role. Being emotionally reactive to or overprotective of clients also represents additional ways in which a counselor may blur therapeutic boundaries and increase the likelihood of making poor treatment choices. I am shocked by the number of therapists who have a sexual relationship with their clients. Solid and clear boundaries are important in this profession.

Educators and high school counselors are frustrated with the pressures of standardized tests and their use as a method of assessment. Teachers must center their instruction on these standards because they are accountable for their students’ preparation for these tests. In the end, do standardized tests truly justify measuring each student’s progress? Are there alternative approaches to assess those students who do not perform well on tests?

The designers of portfolio-based assessment created an evaluation that centers on each student. The definition of a portfolio is a collection of a student’s work over some time. We can use them as a performance-based assessment tool to show what the student is learning and to track their progress. They also allow the student to reflect on his or her strengths and weaknesses and then apply these skills to improve their performance. I believe there is a need for both portfolio work and assessment.

The counseling stems and hierarchy descriptions implemented in my sessions have given me tools to help my clients grow.

The Skate (Skills, Knowledge, Attitude, Thoughts, Ethics, Supervision) forms gave a wonderful framework to explain in detail what activities I performed that week. The knowledge I gained by reflecting on the activities, tasks, and counseling sessions changed my views on the services offered at the counseling center.

Ethical decision-making is a challenging process for counselors, educators, supervisors, and supervisees. Counselors have gatekeeping responsibilities to ensure that they uphold ethical standards in their service delivery to clients. Counselors who are diligent about training in the field could benefit by utilizing case studies and legal briefs to aid in making complex decisions that could involve personal counselor traits.
