England, bordered by adjoining countries Wales to it's West and Scotland to it's North sits within the Western Palearctic ecozone which itself sits within the larger Palearctic ecozone. These ecozones, following the definitions of Birds of the Western Palearctic, and Udvardy (1975), are, broadly, defined based as distinct areas where it is possible to discern than organisms evolved, separate from other areas. England shares much of it's wildlife with Europe, and has migrant and passage species connecting as far as Sub Saharan Africa.

England is part of the European land mass- England sits with the Solent to its South, a narrow channel of water lying over the connected land masses.
