Montag and Mildred read the book together but they didn't understand. Montag remembered an old man who had a book he had met before. He found the phone number of an old man and went to his house. Faber highlights the importance of books with 3 reasons. Quality of information, leisure to digest the book, and right to carry out actions based on what they learn from the interaction of the first two. After Montag's persuasion, Faber decided to help him. They share the small bugging machine which allows them to communicate in secret. As Montag went back home, there were Mildred and her two friends. Their conversation made Montag angry and let him read the poem from the book. This made Ms. Phelps cry and Montag argued with Mrs. Bowles. Later Montag feel confused and guilty but Faber encouraged him. Montag returns to work and gave his book back to Captain Beatty. Captain Beatty tries to confuse Montag. Suddenly the bell rang and firemen rushed to the place where the report was directed. It was Montag's house."

1. Is Captain Beatty a good guy? Is he on Montag's side even though he is a fireman? Beatty is trying to save Montag from "books". Captain Beatty knows to much about Montag's actions and the existance of Faber.
2. Did Beatty want to die?
Montag convinces himself that Beatty wants to die but this is never really said if this is what he wanted.
3. Did Mildred intend to leave some of the books in the bushes or not? Does she want Montag to be discovered? Is it a careless mistake? Mildred purposefully left the books to perhaps frame Montag.
