I’ve learned so much about adab in learning knowledge during the first week of my usrah. One of the key lessons is the importance of respecting the lecturer by listening attentively and being on time. We also learned to value time, avoid distractions, and always interact with good manners among peers. It’s all about creating a focused and supportive environment where we learn sincerely for the sake of Allah.

2. Al-Quran as the Book of Guidance

During the first week of my usrah, I gained a deeper understanding of the Quran as the ultimate Book of Guidance. One key takeaway was that the Quran isn’t just a collection of stories or rules, but a comprehensive guide that directs us in every aspect of life. It teaches us how to live in harmony with Allah’s will and provides solutions to challenges we face. We also emphasized the importance of reflecting on its messages and actively applying its teachings to our daily actions.

In the second week of my usrah, we focused on the Pillars of Islam, particularly through the Hadith of Jibril. One of the key points we discussed is how the five pillars form the foundation of a Muslim's faith and practice. Each pillar—Shahada, Salah, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj—guides us in our relationship with Allah and with others. The Hadith of Jibril beautifully sums up these essentials, showing how they are interconnected and how they shape our spiritual and practical lives. It really made me reflect on how these pillars guide our actions and strengthen our connection to Allah.

In the third week of my usrah, we focused on the Pillars of Iman, specifically belief in Allah, the angels (Malaikat), and the books (Kitab). We learned that these core beliefs shape our understanding of the unseen and strengthen our faith. One of the highlights was a fun quiz on Quizizz, which tested our knowledge of all the pillars of Iman. It was a great way to reinforce the importance of believing in Allah, the angels, and the holy books, and how each pillar connects to our overall belief system in Islam. The quiz made it interactive and helped me remember the details more effectively.

In week 4, since we already covered all the Pillars of Iman in week 3, we didn’t have a new usrah topic. Instead, we did a Quizizz to review and reinforce everything we learned about the Pillars of Iman—belief in Allah, the angels, the books, the prophets, the Day of Qiyamah, and Qada’ and Qadar. It was a great way to test our understanding and ensure we remembered the key concepts from the previous week. This quiz helped solidify the importance of these beliefs in shaping our faith and actions.

In week 5 of my usrah, we focused on the concept of Ihsan (excellence in worship). We learned that Ihsan means to worship Allah as if we can see Him, and although we can’t see Him, knowing that He sees us should motivate us to perform every action with sincerity and excellence. The idea of Ihsan goes beyond just performing rituals; it’s about cultivating a deeper connection with Allah in everything we do, with the highest level of integrity and mindfulness. This week helped me reflect on how to approach all aspects of life—whether worship or daily actions—with greater care and devotion.

2. Eschatology

we also covered the topic of eschatology which is the study of the end of times in Islam. We discussed key events that will occur leading up to the Day of Judgment, like the coming of the Dajjal (Antichrist), the return of Prophet Isa (Jesus), the appearance of the Mahdi, and the final resurrection. The focus was on understanding the signs of the end times and preparing ourselves spiritually, as these events remind us of our ultimate accountability to Allah. This topic really made me reflect on the transient nature of life and the importance of staying righteous and conscious of the Hereafter.

Reflecting on these topics made me more aware of my responsibilities as a Muslim and how I can improve myself in both faith and character. Understanding the role of ihsan, striving for excellence in everything we do, encouraged me to be more mindful of my actions and intentions. Learning about the afterlife also served as a reminder to always work towards becoming a better person and strengthening my connection with Allah.

I also really enjoyed the discussions and sharing sessions, as they helped me see different perspectives and understand things more deeply. It was nice to learn together in a supportive and engaging environment. Moving forward, I hope we can include more interactive activities or real-life applications to make the learning experience even more meaningful. Overall, this Usrah has been a great opportunity for growth, and I look forward to more sessions in the future!

1. Hikmah in Prayer
   Prayer helps us seek forgiveness for our sins with Allah and builds a strong connection with Him. Praying in congregation (jemaah) strengthens social bonds and unity among Muslims. It also gives us daily guidance and discipline. When we truly reflect and focus during prayer, we become more aware of Allah’s presence, which helps us avoid sins and follow His commands sincerely.

2. Hikmah in Fasting
   Fasting teaches us patience and self-control. It helps us understand the struggles of those who don’t have enough food, making us more grateful. While fasting, we remember that Allah is always watching us, which stops us from secretly breaking the fast. It also trains us to resist temptations and control our desires, making us spiritually stronger.

3. Hikmah in Zakat
   Zakat is a required act that purifies our wealth and cleanses our hearts from greed. For example, if someone earns money in a doubtful way, zakat helps purify part of that wealth. At first, it may feel like a burden, but over time, it becomes a habit. Starting with zakat leads to more generosity like giving charity and helping the poor willingly.

4. Hikmah in Hajj
   Hajj teaches us to improve our manners and reminds us that Allah knows all our actions. It builds our spiritual strength and discipline, as there are clear rules and limits to follow. Hajj also brings Muslims from all over the world together, creating unity and brotherhood. During Hajj, we perform many other acts of worship, which helps us grow closer to Allah and encourages us to continue worshipping better after returning.

Fasting brings many benefits, not just spiritually but also physically, as it can improve our health. It teaches us patience and self-control, helping us remain calm and strong in facing challenges. Fasting also allows us to feel empathy and sympathy for the poor, as we experience hunger and understand their struggles better. In addition, it strengthens bonds between family and community, especially when we prepare food together or break fast as a group at the mosque.

Salah shows our loyalty and devotion to Allah, as praying five times a day reminds us that He is our Creator and we are His servants. It also teaches us the meaning of jihad, as we struggle to stay focused, fight against distractions, and overcome our desires and whispers from shaytan to perform salah with full concentration. Through salah, we also practise muhasabah (self-reflection), as we seek Allah’s forgiveness, realise our mistakes, and make the effort to become better individuals.

2. Virtues of Hajj
   Hajj is a spiritual journey that holds great virtues, such as strengthening our faith, cleansing our sins, and drawing us closer to Allah. It teaches us patience, discipline, and humility, as we follow the rituals and respect the boundaries set by Allah. Hajj also unites Muslims from around the world, promoting brotherhood and equality. Through this experience, our hearts become more connected to acts of worship and we return home with a renewed sense of purpose and devotion.

The usrah was very enjoyable and not boring at all. The facilitator, sr Yasmin was funny and engaging, which made the session more lively. I really liked how the facilitator used interesting activities to keep us focused and involved. The explanations were clear and easy to understand, which helped me learn better and stay connected to the topic. The friendly and supportive environment also made it easier to participate and feel comfortable.

As for recommendations, I think it would be nice to have some activities outside the classroom in the future to make the usrah experience feel a bit different and more refreshing. It could help us bond even more and learn in a fun, new environment. Overall, Usrah 2 was a great experience, and I’m looking forward to the next sessions.
