Franz Ferdinand's assassination is known as one of the leading causes of WW1. Franz was an Austrian Archduke, whilst in transit with his wife to Bosnia he was assassinated. A leading cause of the declaration of war was the assassination of the Austria-Hungary Archduke, Franz Ferdinand. Furious with the recent assassination, Austria-Hungary demanded that Serbia end anti-Austrian propaganda and give them a rigid ultimatum. Serbia accepted these aggravated demands though and followed all except one. In an attempt to make a threat to Austria-Hungary, Russian forces were mobilized on behalf of Serbia; this support came from the desire to control the Balkans. Two days later Germany declared war on Russia, supporting the Austrian-Hungarians. Originally the French were going to support the Serbians on the war front, but in fear of disappointing their beloved Russian allies, Russia instead took charge. "The first general mobilization occurred before the German government declared a state of impending war." Russia's obvious threat to Germany caused them to join the war and take military action along with mobilization in hostility against Russia.

The Germans were the first ones to use poison gas in war, hooray! The Germans used a wave of "asphyxiating gas released from cylinders embedded in the ground" to smother the Allied forces on the opposing side. The gas caused lung tissue irritation, leading to a choking effect killing soldiers. The sunken British ship, the Lusitania, was taken down on May 7, 1915, and taken with it were 1,195 lives. The Germans had invented a new kind of naval warfare, an illegal one, this was against all naval rules that they had seen at this time. The Germans sent a U-boat to sink the Lusitania, in an attempt to force the British undercover "passenger" ship into military service. This battle began its fighting on the 21st of February. This was the longest battle to be fought inside of WW1. This battle was between the German "5th Army" and the French "Second Army." The battle took place on the east bank of the Meuse. The Germans had previous experience in war and planned to capture the Meuse Heights using tactics from the Second Battle of Champagne. Taking place in the final phase of the war, this revolution removed the Russians from the war and instead brought about a transformation of the Russian Empire. This transformation took the Russians from being the Russian Empire to instead becoming known as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), and introducing Russia into a communist state. The revolution was a series of events in Russia's political history that were related to the overthrow of the autocratic system of government, and the liberal provisional government. The U.S. Senate made a vote of 82 to 6 in the declaration of war against Germany. With the recent withdrawal of the Russians, and U.S. allies through the allied powers, the Americans were the second biggest force against Germany and took on the challenge of war. America joined due to Germany's annoying them through submarine attacks on passenger and merchant ships. The Hundred Days Offensive was the Allied forces launching a series of attacks, in hopes, end WW1. The offensive brought defeat to the German Army in the summer of 1918. Essentially during the offensive, the Allied forces pushed the Germans out of France and made them retreat beyond the Hindenburg Line. Signed at the Palace of Versailles just outside of Paris, France. This treaty was one of the many that were put together to end the first world war, WW1. After five years of conflict, the treaty was signed by the associated powers and Allied forces. When signing the treaty the US Senate actually initially rejected the treaty, and members felt their concerns were not adequately addressed when the treaty was signed. We know now that when signing, President Woodrow Wilson, never took the senator's objections into consideration when making the agreement. Now agreed on, the Treaty of Versailles actually failed because of the harsh punishment and unrealistic expectations that it was filled with.
